well plug ins are post fader, unless you are compressing straight to tape you gotta create and aux and buss your track with the compression to another audio track to make it stick.

Make sure on the mixer window that the input is set correctly. You could have your mic plugged into input 1 and pro tools is waiting for a signal from input 2. It does that sometimes...just check your mixer window and make sure

Since I won't be able to come to your spot and hook everything up.

First of all you are going to experience latency (for several reasons), so I suggest you change the buffer settings and make them as low as possible. After you do that the first thing you need to do is create a hardware insert.

1. SETUPS->I/O

2. Choose the INSERT tab

3. Choose the insert path or DEFAULT (double click it to rename it and name it avalon)

4. Select mono or stereo.

5. Connect the avalon.

6. Select the outputs and inputs that correspond to the insert you made in step #3.

7. connect the OUPUT of the mbox to the INPUT of the avalon.

8. connect the OUTPUT of the avalon to the selected input on the Mbox.

Midi Connections

1. Midi Out from Motif to Midi In on the Mbox 2

2. Midi In from Motif to Midi Out on Mbox 2

3. Go to Pro Tools and select MIDI - INPUT DEVICES. You should see the mbox 2 midi ports. Make sure they are checked.

4. Click OK.

5. Go to the motif (I have a motif ES so this may be different from you) and Load up a beat or pattern AND REMEMBER THE TEMPO

6. select UTILITY.

7. Select MIDI

8. Change Midi Sync to MIDI

9. Go back to Pro Tools, go to Midi and change the tempo so it matches the tempo from the motif.

10. Press play in pro tools. The motif will play back.

11. Connect the Midi Thru of the Motif to the Midi In on the module.

12. Make the appropriate changes in the sound module (select multi timberal mode if your module has something labled as that.)

13. Set all midi channels in the motif that have NO DATA to RECIEVE CHANNEL OFF

14. On the sound module do the same thing

15. Assign the parts/channels you want to use to the ones that you turned OFF on the motif.

So if you use 1-8 on the motif you want to cut off 9-16 so you can route the channels from the module to 9-16 on the motif.

EXTRA: I don't know if the Motif has a usb port, but I know the motif es does. If you have a usb port you can transfer midi over the usb cable by using the USB TO HOST output. Go to Utility->midi->other->midi in/out-> and change to USB.

I don't even have a rig right now but ima save this. I thought they simplified some of the routing issues in 7? Seems just as a bitch as it always was. I remember in school we had to draw a flow chart of how a triton and a roland sound module came into pro tools, it was a major bitch
