Ive went to buying 20-30 cd's a year to maybe 2-3 ever since Ive got into makin beats..I hardly listen to much else..
I've found it just the opposite... I've bought a lot of older cds just for the beats (usually because of a particular producer). I wouldn't be listening as closely to the music if I wasn't making my own music.

One thing is for sure: my lady's sick of hearing my tracks.

Yea if I do buy an album its usually something older..I think the lack of alot of new good quality albums is the main reason why I dont buy music as much...I agree about listening closer to other songs when you start to make your own music

I constantly thump my recent tracks, and dust off some of the old ones every now and then to see where my head was at when the track was recorded.

i do both. i listen to my shit more, to promote my shit, get personal opinions from the streets, and just to make sure i'm feelin my shit overall.

i play other artists to listen to what the rest of the industry or my competition is comin wit, and to see what the public wants, so we can bring it, just with our own style. feel me......

Myself......

I'm pretty much forced to listen to the shit that I'm workin' on. I'm recording & mixing 8 seperate albums right now that are in various stages of completion and I HAVE TO listen to them in various environments all the time. It gets tiring after a while.....having to listen to different mixes all the time and deciding whether or not to go back and redo some vocals or pick apart the songs looking for minute fuck-up's because I'm anal retentive and everything has to perfect! lol

But I try to check out new music as much as I can.....just so I can keep an ear open for the trends and to hear who's doin' what. This usually involves a couple hours of listening to the radio every week. I don't buy many CD's anymore.....because let's face it.....alot of them are crap these days. I just bought the new E-40 because I heard it was hella tight.....uh I only like 3 songs. They just don't make them like they used to. For me.....I think there are plenty of tight rappers out there.....I just don't understand what they were thinkin' when they picked out their beats! Geez.....
