WHAT UP. I'VE BEEN REAL CURIOUS ABOUT THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND I THOUGHT SICCNESS WOULD BE A GOOD VENUE TO ASK THIS QUESTION CUZ I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF COOL FILLIPINO FOLKS ON HERE:
NOW THIS QUESTION APPLIES TO THOSE FILLIPINOS THAT ARE FROM THE FILLIPINES AND SPEAK ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE, BUT I'M SURE EITHER A 2ND OR 1ST GENERATION PINOY CAN ANSWER ME THIS:

WHY DO FILLIPINO BORN PEOPLE FREQUENTLY SAY, "THAT ONE," OR "THIS ONE," WHEN THEY'RE SPEAKING ENGLISH? I'VE NOTICED THIS FOR A LONG ASS TIME. FOR EXAMPLE: I COULD BE AT THE BANK AND COULD BE TALKING TO A FILLAPINA LADY ABOUT A CHECKING ACCOUNT AND A SAVINGS ACCOUNT AND SHE'LL SAY, " DO YOU MEAN DIS ONE OR DAT ONE?" EVEN THOUGH WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT SOME SPECIFIC ASS SHIT SHE WILL SAY THAT.

IS IT SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY TAGALOG TRANSLATES INTO ENGLISH OR WHAT?

FILL ME IN! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR BROADENING MY CULTURAL UNDERSTANDINGS.

"This one" translate to "Eto?" to tagalog and "that one" translates to "Yan?"
so when ur at a store a typical conversation would go like
"Which shoe u want?"
"Eto O Yan?"

when I DJ'd at Wild, E-Rock and another Filipino cat were talkin about how all the older generation always put an "e" before alot of words...Like his grandma when she cursed would say "e-shitttt!". Always found that funny as hell.

But as someone who worked in the wireless "pone" industry for 8 years I can honestly say that Filipinos were the nicest customers I ever had. Yeah it's a generalization but it's true.

yea my filipino homies is koo, they parents be koo as fuck too. Everytime I come over they be like You hungry? want something to eat? and they ALWAYS got hella good food waiting. Shieet, one of my homies everytime I bounce out the pad his moms is always like take some food home, that's the pad to go to when u trynna blow freal.

But since its up i'll ask anyways....Where the fuck did you pilipinos come from? you people were from asia and tried to pull a Christopher Columbus and got stuck at your island or did the Spanish dudes pull an Amistad on you guys or what? speaking of pinoy food, I finally found a flip restaurant. been on the lookout for a while. if anyone is the east bay, check our Asian Pinoy Flavor in San Lorenzo (near southland). a dozen lumpia for $4. also snatched up some diniguan and some other shit that i couldn't pronounce. lol- they had a karaoke party going on in the banquet room!
