I have a receiver with a cd/dvd player hooked up to it, also a vcr and other shit too. Anyway I have a record player hooked up to it, and the sound is terrible even with a pre-amp. It seems odd that with a receiver I'd still need a pre-amp anyway, but without it there is no sound at all.....I have to blast that shit at the top of the volume control for even minimal sound to come out with the pre-amp when I want to hear my records and the sound is awful. Does anyone here know anything about this and how I can get good sound? I have it plugged in to the "aux" and then through the pre-amp and from the pre-amp to the player. Any help would be appreciated.

does your receiver have a "phono" input??? if so there should be a screw in close proximity to connect the ground lead from the turntable.oh wait, youre using a preamp

uhhh then there should still be a ground post for you to connect that 3rd little wire coming out of the turntable. if that doesnt work then i dont know. i havent messed with a table for years.
