How do I import my beat into sonar(from reason 4)?

i been able to connect the synths and everything,

you can hear the sound,

but is there a way where it records the midi automation too?

i just need the fastest way to be able to mix my song.. on sonar

rewire it, reason will slave into any major daw just fine. you might have to set up a template within sonar for every module you want to use in reason for it. Then you can use better quality plug ins onto your mix and you are good to go.

I cannot seem to bus my Reason sounds to audio tracks in Sonar (or Cubase). I can Rewire it, but that won't allow me to export everything. I can do it in Pro Tools, but I'm trying to help my cousin figure all this out (and for myself just in case I want to use Sonar or Cubase later on down the line). Does anyone have any info on doing this?

the rewiring is kinda confusing

i pulled out some instruments from the synth rack

then i could play an instument and record it,

although i wish it could just read it by itself

..exporting and re arranging midi files take too long

:(

Jayda650 as usual - is right on the money

Sonar will converts Reason midi into audio tracks much faster than any other DAW app, if done correctly!

1) Create a Sonar session.

2) Open Sonar's synth rack and select Rewire>Reason

3) Once Reason is up, select the .rns file you want to open

4) Once that file is open, solo out the sound you want to export

5) In Sonar go to edit > bounce to track...

6) Repeat steps 4-5 until all sounds have been tracked out in Sonar

Note: you may have to adjust the volume of the sounds in Reason before bouncing them to track... you may find that some will need to be turned up if you would like a decent-sized wavfile to be created...

OPTIONAL BUT RECCOMENDED

7) Once these steps have been completed, go to Reason and select 'save as'...

8) add an '_export' to the end of the file name...

this will allow you to always be able to go back to it if you ever decide to change any of the midi and re-bounce; as you can swap out the newly created wavfile with the old one in Sonar - rendering it sonically identical to its predecessor, even if you've already inserted plug-ins or made volume/pan adjustments!

... plus you will still have the og .rns file that you made before re-wiring in Sonar which is good for archivial and referencing purposes; professional file managment for me is a must - it's saved me plenty of times!

9) go back to Sonar's synth rack and delete Reason... cuz it will greatly reduce the loading time when you open the Sonar session in the future!

It might appear complitcated, but doing it the right way can actually make the whole deal a lot easier in the long run!

SUPER OPTIONAL

10) In my situation, I'm always running outta disk space, sending files over the net and at times copying them to a USB flash drive to take to another studio... so basically I like to keep the size of my sessions as small as possible with out compromising my audio bit-depth/sampling rates!

If the song has not been arranged in Reason (ie no breakdowns or change ups).... I'll select only 8 bars and bounce that... then copy and paste it enough times so that the total length ends up at around 3:30...

You can copy audio all you want in Sonar and it will not effect the size of the session... it simply references the wave file from within its audio folder! Lastly, songs can be arranged in Sonar as they can be automated/edited/muted pretty easily...

Hopefully these tips'll help y'all out... the system that I developed was formulated over a long period of time thru trial and error... I believe this to be the most professional and efficient way to convert Reason's midi into wavefiles that can be mixed on any DAW app ... as I use ProTools HD and Nuendo as well!

And if any of y'all want your reason files mixed with real analog outboard gear... hollatchyaboyee!

My studio is running full time, and I'm down to take on some new projects!

^^^i was told there's a producers edition, academic edition, and a home edition. i think the producers edition is the best one tho because it has more stuff in it as far plugins and stuff. which one do you have?

i have producers edition, but so far i really hate it,

its nothing like pro tools

im trying to switch to live
lol

yea i've always thought sonar was cool and real easy to work wit but man you're way ahead of me wit part 7. i'm still off 4 lol. i'm tryna get that 7 producers edition. the thing that sucks tho is that by the time i decide to buy, they'll probably end up having part 9 or 10 already. that's whats so annoying about fruity loops. everytime i buy a newer one, then there's another newer one coming out. but sonar is a good program imo. i've been workin off cakewalk shit since like 8 which is way way back. cakewalk software has come a long way. have you seen the sonar rss console thing. shit looks hella sick.

well yeah, thats always whats gonna happen,

just look at the brightside, producers have making hot shit since the older days

so it woulnt be too much of a good idea to get lost in the technology rather than in the art

i hardly use all those fancy effects

i hate sonar to tell you the truth,

lol, im using the rewire with reason, cause reason sucks at handling vocals

sometimes i feel like im running a program instead of creating music

yea i feel that. nah tryna keep up wit every new sonar that comes out is ridiculous expensive and bullshit lol. i would like to one day get that sonar rss console thing (in my dreams). sonar 4 works coo for me tho. yea its always good to have those effects on deck but majority of the time i don't really have no use for them. but i'm tryna get reasons right now tho.

what kind of sound card do you have?

i dont have a soundcard right now, didnt think i would need it, would when i use thic sounds the distortion hurt my ears,

i guess ima have to buy one but i wouldnt know where to start
A Echo Gina might be a good start... I used one for years and it worked real well with Sonar ... If you get an M-Audio interface you can also run Pro Tools... but the Echo Gina sounds better...
