i just got reason 4 and im interesed in rewiring in pro tools but i have a problem. I only use pro tools at school and the school only has reason 3. i realize it probobly wont work trying to take my reason 4 beat and open it in reason 3 so i guess i gotta bounce out each instrument separtely. as far as sound quality goes will i lose quality this way compared to rewiring it in?

It will work fine

Any song made in reason 4 will open in 3 with no problem just make sure that all the samples you used are there and all that. Only way it won't open is if you use the new instruments in 4 but it should still open just minus that instrument.

nah that's not true reason has never been programmed to be backward-compatible. A reason 2.5 song couldn't open in 2.0, a 3.0 song couldn't be opened in 2.5 and a reason 4.0 song will not open up in Reason 3.0

anyway nobody really answered my REAL question which was: will exporting track by track from reason and then putting it into pro tools sound worse than rewiring it and recording it directly?

^^^Na adapted wasn't only made for protools...adapted was made to be part of a "Bundle" package included with programs like Protools, Cubase, etc. It's pretty much a demo of reason, with no time limit and you can save (I believe) there's a device limit though I've heard.

And no it won't necessarily sound worse. You're still using Reason's sound engine either way. You'd be more streamlined using re-wire though IMO.

And also, what you can do, is export MIDI files using 4.0 at home, and import those into reason 3.0 at school. You can grab a flash drive and throw your NNXT/Combi patches on that with your samples so you can use them wherever you may be.

i do this sometimes and you wont notice a diffrence. about the reason 4 - 3. I remember having R3 and done the update for it, then i redone my comp and installed it back without the update, my update tracks wouldent eaven work on the clean R so i doubt that you can open R4 in R3
