LIFIK

Q&A's
------
What is your name, what do you go by?

Names Zac. Zac Pier. Code name: Lifik.

Where in the puget sound do you reside?

All over really. But, my hearts in Kent and that's where I am at the moment.

Do you think rappers will ever start taking up instruments? Is it necessary?

I think it's healthy for 'em to produce a lil music of their own. You know, maybe get down on a lil piano or hit a drum or two. I don't think it's necessary to pick up an oboe or a trombone and join a marching band though.

What do you think neighboring places such as California, Vancouver feel about the northwest music scene?

They love our shxt.

Where in your music career do you think you'll be five years from now?

I don't know. I trying to break into producing though. We'll see where that leads...

When do you think we'll see more hip-hop/rock line-ups? Are the scenes too divided?

I've always thought of it as taboo. It' okay to sample rock music, but to go full on rappin'/buttrockin' makes it hard to keep fans interested from both sides of the fence. In other words pick one genre and kill it.

How was your Christmas? Would you ever make a holiday rap album?

My Xmas was good. The kids all got what they wanted. As for a Xmas rap album I would rather put on a Rock album.

Why did you submit this particular track to the Puget Sound Mixtape?

It was hard to pick because ALL of my songs are amazing really. But I felt this one had tremendous energy and stood out from the rest. I cant help but head bang.

Do you have any shout-outs you want to give out?

Burger King! You had out that California Whopper out for a bit, then you took it away. I ain't mad atcha. I just want it back!

GREG DOUBLE (BLUE NOSE MUSIC)

Q&A's
--------
What is your name, what do you go by?

- Gregory Vincent Goucher / Greg Double

Where in the Puget Sound do you reside?

-Lakewoood for now

Who's CD/Mixtape/Mp3s are you bumpin right now, mainstream or underground?

-General Wojack, Abom Kid, Shao Sosa, Illizm, Rizeberg, AR Mastermind, SoundShop Northwest (j money the hitman), Spice 1, Andre Nickatina & The Jacka.. i think thats all in my glove compartment

What were the first musicians that inspired you to make music, rap or otherwise?

-Sir Mixalot, NWA, Spice 1, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Snoop Doggy Dogg

Where is all the Mob music, do you think the swag/techno/dance faze is on its way out, or just beginning?

-there is still some good westcoast mobb music out there, youve just got to know the right producers and mc's.. i get alot of beats from california producers myself because i need and want that mobb sound in my projects.

i spose the dance stuff will always be around, it was booty jams and bass cds back in the 90's i think it will live on, but morph into the next trend or fad or whatever u want to call it.

When will we see a westcoast tour featuring Blue Nose Music?

-hopefully sooner than later, weve got connections from bellingham to to california.. but trying to get everyone on the same page is tricky. id say by 2013 well be traveling the coast rocking venues!

How is making music for money, different from making music from the heart?

- idealy, its the same thing. but realisticly, not so much. i feel that when youre making music that you as an artist dont enjoy; once youre writing to target a specific demographic, that the art just went out the window. youre now producing a product to do a job, and bring in money.. your artistic muse has become the money you are trying to earn, maybe that accounts for how hip hop n rap culture is so obsessed with money..

Do you still work with Mac Wayne & Uncle Moo, who were featured alongside you on the first Puget Sound Mixtape?

- no, long as ive done this ive seen alot of artists come and go.. im sure theyre out there getting in work but just on different pages.

Do you think race is still a significant factor in hip-hop or do people just want good music?

-i dont think its a factor to a real artist.. for the most part, people that want to hear good music dont care what color or sex you are. and those are the people i work for!

If a new artist were to ask you where he should start to make a name for himself, what would you say?

-i have always tried to work with younger cats, show them how to get started recording and writing in song format & facilitate a young rap mind as much as possible.. but i spose now i would have to pass on the wisdom ive recieved from my role models.. id say
1st) do have a real career to fall back on.
2nd) do keep an open mind, positive attitude & network
3rd) dont try to be a 1 man army. you need allies to be successful.
4th) dont waste time & money in studios making albums.. focus your energy, money and everything on a few SOLID, WINNING singles, and create videos to spam on social networking sites, online musician & fan forums & everything else to create a buzz for yourself..(might get u a sponsor to record that full length LP)

im sure there is a million things u can say, things u learn as you go.. but i think thats a good start..

You run your own label [Blue Nose Music] How is it to operate as record label head & artist?

-it can be difficult as far as releasing my own projects.. i never put my artists on the back burner for my own project, & its taken me years to barely release my Ego Centric album.. but if you stay about your business, dont screw around with side BS, its not so difficult.

Why did you submit this particular track to the puget sound mixtape?

-This is a song we did recently, with my young homie 5ive 3re, who teams with his brother Easie & makes beats out in olympia.. i loved the beat soon as i heard it, we all sparked on the topic and it showcases almost all of our Blue Nose Music squad on one track, as well as combining our veterans with our apprentices. Cant Handle The Night.

Do you have any shout-outs?

-Mike G, Castroni, Thunderchief, Tactical, 5ive 3re, Iballz, Abom Kid, all my BlueNose fam! Cam The Viking AR Mastermind, Lost Soul The Emo Cat & All the Gonzo Family, Josh Rizeberg, Tak Patron, all Six Guns Music, Illizm, Shao Sosa & BDub, Tony Snow, Emoe Mob Marley, Goph, Z Dub, PTP, AKA, Alias Alias & the hotbox network, Sic Ill, Koomaniacs, Unconfined Promotions & The new umbrella, my family & friends who support me

DJ HAZE

What is your name, what do you go by?

DJ Haze

Where in the Puget Sound do you reside?

Downtown Seattle

Who inspired you to become a producer?

Dr. Dre was the first established producer that had really made me look at the art of beat creation. Scott Storch was along that same thought. Specifically the Still D.R.E. beat, but so many of the tracks off of The Chronic: 2001. The first time I heard those instrumentals, I knew I had found something to take with me.

What impresses you about the local music scene? What disappoints you?

I’m impressed by the community of the underground scene in Seattle. It seems like the few dudes around here that have established a reputation in town as Hip-Hop artists are closer with their fans, and upcoming artists than in other places.

A big factor that disappoints me about the local scene is how everything is at a 21+ venue. Being under 21, I find it very hard to network with people in the industry. As well as do shows, and DJ at events. I understand why it is that way, and it’s like that in the whole region. But when I lived in NJ, being under 21 wasn't as big of an obstacle in doing shows and going to events.

Where can we see DJ Haze live or online?

Well me and Mista Gee just had a show at The Republiq in Seattle (Dec. 7th), and I like the people who run that place, as well as the atmosphere. So I will most likely be doing more shows over there.

As far as online, I was just played on Headstrong Radio www.headstrong-music.com (Thursday Night), and currently in rotation on Peekaboo's Playhouse. ww.peekaboosplayhouse.info/

How does northwest music compare to the national average in your opinion?

Well speaking on Hip-Hop; The Pacific North-West can be pretty white bread at times, I feel like there may not be enough fans for the Hip-Hop genre to really thrive locally. The same goes for talented Hip-Hop artists, there just isn't as many here, as there is in other American cities.

But on the flipside of that, The NW is huge for Alternative Rock, Jazz, or Folk music.

How important is getting on mixtapes, line-ups to upcoming artists in Your opinion?

Man, that’s about as important to your career as drinking water and breathing oxygen is to your life. Even if you feel your above the particular show or mixtape, go n let everyone know how much better you are than the rest.

Why did you submit this particular track to the Puget Sound Mixtape?

I laced the homie with my 3 track EP, and I stand behind each of those tracks 100% because out of the 20+ songs we made over the last year, we only want to release the best of the best. People don’t forget about a weak debut.

Do you have any shout-outs you want to give out?

Well obviously S/O to the homie Mista Gee, who wrote and performed the lyrics over my tracks on our EP and this compilation.

And to Sic Ill for putting us on this tape.
