how many of yall actually copyright all your shit? what do you think of protecting your beats that are on your myspace and soundclick?

I'm stuck between, "if you steal my beat using a computer program, you weren't worth doing business with in the first place" but then sometimes I think "I would rather not have any unauthorized uses of my beat"

I think I'm just gonna use one tag at the beginning.
using tags is cool, but think about it, it aint nothing to duplicate a beat and switch it up just a lil....really internet or sites like soundclick if you super producer aint a good site for ya..get a manager who meets up with labels and execs and artists every day....soundclick all you gonna do is get upset arguing with people who wanna pay you $20 for a beat.

Duplicate you mean copy the melodies right? Yeah you're right.

I can't afford a manager I never sold a beat before.

How do you like to sell yours?
I aint a producer just a hobbyist..but one of my boys has a manger the other doesnt. having a good manager is the best, cause if you have a job/or other obligations this allows for the manager to negotiate all transactions, plus a good manager is connected as well as knowledgeable. They both make decent money selling beats, one of em is tired of it(he has no manager, but heated) they might be doing a project to shop with crooked I and Techniec..but getting a manger to mange you is hard in itself...its a hustle now..some want you to pay them some upfront money to shop some songs..thats bullshit..if you hot they gonna represent ya...

A hobbyist, but have you ever sold a beat?

they could just loop the rest
yeah that's what i was thinking. right now I have shit tagged all the way through. 8 bar loop of one part of the song is the most they'll get, and it would take some work, i tagged it all randomly. i haven't put shit up yet though.

But then I also think about what's the big deal if someone does take my beat. They could sell it, use it, but either way it'll be a crappy myspace/soundclick quality rip. Anyone trying to scrap up the pieces that low is worthless anyway. Iono!

But most producers dont need to even copy and loop it..they will just replay it or find the sample and flip it like you did.

i never sold beats..my beats arent for sale..Ive had people rap on em before..no one major

Your best bet is to post up good but stuff you dont particulary care much about to get your name out there negotiate with people. 50 cal is right though messing with internet rappers you'll be lucky to break 50 bucks out of them and most of them are really horrible. i'd rather keep my beats than have wacky d spit over them IMO. Its who you know for real, you cant go far being an arm chair internet beatmaker if you arent networking and getting out there in the scene for real.

A good idea is scout your own talent if you are really serious, thats how most of the top bay producers got where they are. I remember when Sean T produced exclusivly for EPA rappers now hes all over the bay and his style has improved 10 fold bc he became more versityle

Yeah you can copyright em, even if they have uncleared samples in them.

Yeah if the produce wants to reproduce it, only thing is a copyright. I'm pretty sure Timbaland has done it a few times, and other producers too. Problem is I don't sell enough and I don't know my talent too well so I can't afford to copyright everything.

Okay so then what do you do about beat CDs? Tag them? I know it's best just to copyright everything, but like I said I don't even know the best ones that I think will sell the best.

I personally hate tagged shit, but it is necessary since foos be stealing shit.....I do like what Just Blaze was doing on his myspace beats tho, that foo would just talk over the entire beat.....you still get a sense of the beat and you can talk about your ideas on there....

when i was peaking of copyriting..I didnt just mean beats with samples. If you have a beat that you beleive in your heart is a banger then maybe copyright. you dont have to copyright each and every beat i beleive you can copyright a whole c.d.
I wouldnt even tag a beat c.d//because I would only have that beat c.d in my posession....dont send out beat c.ds thats about as effective a recording and sending out a demo....get a manager..build a buzz....

I'm ridin with 50Cal on damn near everything he said.
I been jacked hella from Soundclick. fucks would actually have the nerve to email me and say "look what I did to your beat" we should work together. I'm like what?? Hells nah, these people were garbage too!
I didn't even know they can steal my shit from SC. That was long ago, I don't upload any instrumentals anymore. Like 50 said, the majority of people are cheap, shit even bigger named fools are cheap and jack too!
Build a buzz, only let people hear the bangers. I hate when people post shit and say " well , this aint my best shit, but ..." like we wanna hear your weak shit....
If it aint hot to you, then you wastin your time. I don't ever put beats on a disc for people that I didn't think were hot at one time or another.
Back to the subject, if you don't wanna get jacked, don't hand your shit out to people with no money, or "aspiring" artists.
