Given this extremely bleak analysis, it is surprising that Prop. 187 opponents won in eight northern California counties (Alameda, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Sonoma and Yolo) and pulled close in two others (Contra Costa and Humboldt).
