King Hip Hop Celebrates Hip Hop Culture
In The Pacific Northwest!
February 21, 2004 – Kirkland, WA
In 2003, promoter/emcee Sonny Bonoho began bringing together Northwest emcees, deejays, producers, graffitti artists, b-boy and b-girl crews, beatboxers, clothing designers, event promoters, independent record labels and record stores for a day of appreciation. King Hip Hop will take place at the Kirkland Youth Center (348 Kirkland Ave) in downtown Kirkland from 5:00pm-12:00am on Saturday February 21st.
King Hip Hop is a one-day summit that will showcase talent from all sectors of the Pacific Northwest. The all ages event will feature a freestyle battle, a beat battle for producers, B-boy and B-girl 3-on-3 battles, and an incredible showcase of emcees. There will also be three discussion panels geared toward independent artists and the music community – “The State Of Hip Hop”, “Media And Marketing”, and “Approaching Booking Agents And Promoters”. Cost for the entire night is only $5.00!
There will be non-stop action in the Main Room with deejays Hittman, Topspin, D’lemma, Earthquake, Risk One and Illusion spinning throughout the night. Panel discussions will take place from 6:00pm-8:00pm, followed by the Producer’s Beat Battle.
At 9:00pm the action is intensified as members of the World Champion Massive Monkees, Mad Krew and Fraggle Rock crews judge the 3-on-3 B-boy/B-girl battles in the Senior Room. There will also be a special performance from the Breaking Point Dance Company during the battle. Meanwhile, artists Black Swan, Mr. Benjamin, Alphabets, Sport N Life, Naja Shiri, Young Have Not, and Odeezie will be performing in the Main Room.
The $1 Freestyle Battle will kick off at 10:00pm in the Main Room, as each contestant puts up $1 to try his or her skills on the mic. DJ Supreme and DJ Hijack will spin for the battle, and the audience will determine who is truly the best emcee. At 10:30pm another round of performances closes out the evening with Big City, Unexpected Arrival and the Noc On Wood Family.
