What's y'all hip-hop scene like in Portland? Does everybody work together if it's all about family? Is creativity encouraged by MC's instead of biting shit which is prevalent nowadays on all coasts?

I don't think that the city has been blanketed with garbage music for the last 15 years, I think that artists in every city are putting out bad shit. The main point is that alot of these artists are expecting a miracle to happen, and that's being discovered over night. Most of the artists in Portland don't understand the business aspect of this shit, and come into the game thinking that every nigga that has been doing it is their competition. The town isn't to small, some of these artists are TOO SMALL MINDED. Alot of the new shit that is coming out is garbage, and doesn't deserve to be heard. We have been holding this shit down for the last 10 years, and the only real support that has come along in the city is Proz and Conz, Lifesavaz, GOTM, AL. C, Oldominion and a couple other cats. Plus everybody and their mama's wants to rap. That's what the problem is. Cats got the game fucked up.

Portland has some hot shit out here, and alot of shit that hasn't been heard yet. The only thing the city needs, is for someone to really blow up, and take the shit to the masses. And to this point there aren't many cats in the city that have the talent to do that. But we shall see. However it goes, Jus Family will hold it's own in this shit, and let the competition come.

And in terms of knowone supporting the local scene, I have been to and promoted many local shows with plenty of people there supporting Portland hip-hop. If you give them what they want, they will come.

cool nutz and non-stop pretty much said it all...i think their comments pretty much describe the portland scene...we do have a lot of talent here but like nutz said everybody and they mama think they're rappers and like non-stop said as soon as someone points out the fact that their shit is garbage, instead of going back to the lab to get better they rather just chalk it up to "hating".

portland hiphop has fallen off in the past several years...i can remember back to the old poh-hop days when everybody in the city was checking for that local shit. and ptown hiphop was just hiphop, there was no "i just like gangster shit" or "i just like that consious shit", etc...if you was into local hiphop you liked it all...but then came the invasion of the wack rappers...now it's like motherfuckers are scared to touch that local shit...it's like now if it's local it's probably wack and cats work too hard for their money to be taking chances on some local cat they've never heard of before.

i don't even wanna touch on the other elements...

but like non-stop i'd say that the tides are changing...more and more cats are taking this rapping shit seriously both on the creative level and on the business level and are starting to come out with some quality shit and cats are slowly but surely starting to support their hometown again.

besides the jus' fam crew who have always put it down here are some locals that i'm feeling right now...

The only people that get respect are the people that deserve it. That's the simple fact of the matter. Niggaz don't sell records or get respect because they don't put in the effort to get it, or they aren't putting out quality product. Real shit will stand to the test of time, and the bullshit will have it's cover blown. The proof is in the pudding, and the consumers determine who sells records, and who gets the repspect for being a quality artist. The whole problem with the scene is all of the niggaz that hate on the people that out here actually putting in the work in the streets and in the record stores.

The whole scene has fell off anyway, and alot of niggaz are putting out some straight BULLSHIT. Just because niggaz got a CD burner and Triton don't make them good musicians. Rappers nowadays got the game fucked up with all of these garbage albums, and garbage artwork. These are the things that are holding niggaz back in the game, and making the consumers tired of all that BULLSHIT.

We will see exactly who has what it takes to make it.

When we started out doing the POH-Hop there was a whole different mindset in Portland hip-hop. THe public actually cared about the scene, and actually supported artists that they didn't know, just becuase they were from the town. Now people don't care. Part of the reason they don't care is because most artists from the town aren't even really promoting music correctly out here. The scene is full of BULLSHIT except for a couple of people that are really trying to make it happen.

We will see who has the goods.

^^^^The artwork does mean something about the music, it means you didn't complete the total package. If you are expecting to compete on the next level you need to have all of the parts in place. It's like driving a car with 3 wheels. Bad artwork can keep your project sitting on the shelf as well.

exactly.. thats what i meant by "portlands been blanketed with garbage music"... ppl have been treatin it like a hobby for to long, and errybody thinks they can rap... just cause you got a illustrious "bangin" or "hustlin" career doesnt mean you can turn your experiences into an original, artistic, or a "good sounding" musical rendition... honestly your music when i first heard it, when it was a green and black single or sumthin, to me was hard... then harsh game was hard, but i didnt like speakin upon a million, it sounded to me like a rushed album.. and i didnt like the musical composition on that album besides the song about the different nationallity females... but i like the next files... i think yall have evolved with the music.. one thing that portland artists usually suffer from... and i think youll be happy to hear/represent (portland music) what ive conjoured up in my mental on my solo lp.. were all growing up as artists, and preformers, as far as quality music goes... and i respect you for paving the way for local artists..

by the way.. roses tells me that imma get a spot in the wwot show.... is that true??? i got some heat instore for it

It is the Truth

Yes you will be preforming on wednesday night...so get your A game ready and the official mouthpeice polished extra shiney!

On a side note.......

I suggest everyone that like rap in the portland area come thru to Berbattis pan for (Cool Nutz wide world of talent), on wednesday the 14th around 930 or 10ish. It will be an evening to remember.

And i agree Portland/Northwest rap is missing that certain element that will rasie the level, I hope we can all do our part to get shit bubbly around here..........The local scene has evolved and deminshed a bit since 98 but i have a feeling its jus slipped into a slight remission and will be bacc in full force before you know it.

Btw... Nonstop will bring some warmth to the stage....so all ya'll come out on wednesday, support PORTLAND RAP MUSIC and meet your favorite local artists.

Portland and Seattle are joined at the hip. And the sooner this is realized, the better.......I would propose a "Portland 2 Seattle" compilation, but that would be rediculously cliche.
It is but I think it would help connect the two to all folks on the west coast. I know there is a lot of good NW shit out there nobody has heard just finding it is a bitch. If it weren't such a choir more folks might be up on it. Maybe something similar to TRMNDUS NW mixtapes thru Southwest-Connection...those are all top notch.

Portland and Sac aren't joined, and Seattle and S.F. damn sure aint joined--------go look at the last 10 Sac/SF releases and see how many NW features you see.......then look at a handfull of NW albums and check for Bay/Sac features............i'm sayin, SEATTLE and PORTLAND are joined, and EVERYTHING else should be secondary. The West Coast dont mean shit if we dont even have a solid NorthWest.
If this reply is to me I think you read my post wrong...I was saying it would show the rest of the west coast that the NW is unified. In turn showcasing a stronger NW. That make sense?
