If you got to decide how much you and your neighbor made each year. What would you choose?

you make $60,000 per year while your neighbor makes $80,000 per year

or

you make $50,000 per year while your neighbor makes $50,000 per year

Well, I see two ways to go about it.

1. I'd be happy with 60K, over 50K. And I'm not the type to get jealous of someone with more money. Cause they'll likely spend more of it anyway. I'm the type to save and be prepared for the most part.

2. 50K and 50K is "fair" but life is'nt fair. But I'd rather have 60K even if it means my neighbor get 80K. But why wouldn't someone else get 60K and me as their neighbor get 80K? :)

I'm just humoring this thread.

I saw this posted somewhere else and I thought the results were bogus. Looking for the siccness slant.

People are already "thinking" too much about the question so it probably is FAIL.

I dont like the poll. Im content with what I earn, I could give a shit what anybody else makes, I dont feed them so it really isnt my problem. If my neighbor worked at Mcdonalds and drove around in a new ride with rims and shit, I might not like it, but its not my place to decide whats fair. Im more concerned with my work, and providing for my loved ones to waste the brain cells worrying about someone elses bank statement.

This sounds very similar to the scenarios used in the "Ultimatum Game"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimatum_game

The ultimatum game is a game often played in economic experiments in which two players interact to decide how to divide a sum of money that is given to them. The first player proposes how to divide the sum between the two players, and the second player can either accept or reject this proposal. If the second player rejects, neither player receives anything. If the second player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal. The game is played only once so that reciprocation is not an issue.

Which would predict that we would reject anything in which we were getting less than 30% of what our "neighbor" was receiving. Although this scenario is different than the Ultimatum Game because in this "we" are making the primary decision vs the "neighbor" in the Ultimatum Game, so the motivation to punish their success in this situation would be less than in the Ultimatum Game.

Since I don't concern myself with other people, I'd take the $60,000 and let the neighbor have $80,000 because it's 10 Gs a year more for me than it would be with the other option. I don't give a shit if the neighbor makes more than me. People always talking about hatin, well if you chose the 50 Gs for both of you then you're not only hatin on the neighbor but you're hatin on yourself. Only a sucka ass punk would let jealousy take over.
