This dog was not the sharpest tool in the shed

(07-20) 14:39 PDT Pleasanton (SF Chronicle) -- Pleasanton police are mourning the death of a beloved German shepherd that died Tuesday night after apparently jumping from a balcony during a training exercise, officials said today.

Pasco, a 4-year-old police dog who'd been on the force for one year, fell two stories during a routine exercise in which he was sent to search a building, said police spokesman Sgt. Mark Elerick.

Officer Tim Martens, Pasco's handler, rushed the dog to an animal hospital in Dublin, but veterinarians could not save him, Elerick said.

At the time of the accident, Pasco was off his leash and beyond Martens' view, police said. Someone had inadvertently left a door open, giving Pasco access to a stairway leading to the building's second floor. No one knew the dog was upstairs when he was called, and in an apparent eagerness to respond to the call, investigators assume -- because no one saw what happened -- Pasco jumped from the balcony, police said.

Martens could not be reached for comment. His first canine died about two years ago after succumbing to a rare blood disease.

I feel bad for the dog an all

But I can't help but laugh when I think of someone saying "Come here boy" and this stupid ass dog just takes off running from the top of a building to his death.

I guess that makes it bittersweet.

Maybe the dog was pushed....... you know cops and their cover ups. I bet the dog was gonna go to I.A. and snitch and the crooked cops found out and made the dog have an "accident".
