Finnish gangsta-rap site called redrum-187.com made about a week ago interview with this Houston legend.
Redrum-187: So you’re arriving here next month. How does it feel coming over here up north?
Point Blank: Man it feels great! I went to Australia like two years ago and I’ve been waiting for more ever since. I’ve had Bun B and K-Rino call me from there and tell me about it.
Redrum-187: Do you have any impressions of what kind of a country Finland is?
Point Blank: Well I’ve heard we have a lot of fans there and they love Point Blank!
Redrum-187: Let’s talk about you and SPC. How did you meet the others in the crew?
Point Blank: I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois. I moved to Houston when I was starting in high school. SPC had already been formed. I saw K-Rino doing shows, rapping, entering contests and so forth with Gangsta NIP. SPC approached me and accepted me into the crew… Klondike Kat, K-Rino, Gangsta NIP you know. I’ve been representing them ever since.
Redrum-187: Where did your rap-name come from?
Point Blank: Gangsta NIP gave me that name!
Redrum-187: You knew the late DJ Screw also?
Point Blank: That’s my homie. He had a platinum heart. He created the DJ Screw-style. We used to have a lot of fun… We both got gold records for “My Mind Went Blank”. R.I.P. DJ Screw, much love!
Redrum-187: You are part of the Wreckless Clan also. What’s the deal with clan these days? Are there possibilities for a new album?
Point Blank: Wreckless Entertainment is the name of my company and my other company is Money Fam Inc. We’re going to do another Wreckless Klan album someday. PSK-13 and Ice Lord are my brothers and we talk all the time. We are going to blind sight people when we do a new album. It’s Wreckless Klan for life man! R.I.P. to my brother .38. Ice Lord and PSK-13 are also going to be on my new album.
Redrum-187: What have you been up to nowadays?
Point Blank: I’ve been touring a lot. Shows in every state, town and city… trying to get international. I’m trying to be really hands on with my fans, meet them and push my music hard out there, feel me?
Redrum-187: I heard you have a new album called ”No Money, No reason” coming out?
Point Blank: The new album is going to be classic Point Blank –material. One that you can put on the mantle. I’m going to have Houston legends in there… K-Rino, Bun B, Big Pokey, Killa Kyleon, S.U.C… Gang of gangsters and good music. Definitely gonna be off the chain!
Redrum-187: Who’s taking the producers role?
Point Blank: There’s going to be my boy from Austin Texas called DS2. He is my number one producer! Then there’s going to Big Nupe from Temple Texas. Then there’s going to be one producer from North Carolina called Bionic and one producer from Memphis Tennessee called B.I. He got a producing company called B.I. Productions. Oh yeah, I got Devin the Dude on the record too. I got producers from all around there.
I’m trying to get a dubstep song done also. I heard Europe is the birthplace of dubstep and I want to get my hand in and hook-up with some dubstep producer too.
Redrum-187: How’s the music business these days in Houston?
Point Blank: You don’t work, you don’t eat. It’s all work and no play! Should I say anything more? It’s easy to get overlooked… out of sight, out of mind. If you just sit on your ass you don’t get heard. Got to stay out of troubles way and out of stuff that will get you either dead or in jail. You got to stay grinding hard, cut your blessings and stay focused. Whatever walks of life you come from… from the ghetto or the suburbs you have to know that it’s a career and a job and stay focused.
Redrum-187: If you compare the hip-hop scene in South to what it used to be in the 90’s what would be the biggest difference?
Point Blank: It’s like night and day! Honestly, it’s like night and day… There’s a lot of new styles, lot of new talent, younger cats who haven’t been living so long they could tell you stories but they talk about what they know – having fun and so on. And there’s nothing wrong with that! Everybody does what they want to do; I tip my hat to anybody doing the same way I do. But that being said, I like the classics, the older stuff and in the end of the day there’s a lot of watered down music out there. We just keep on focusing on our stuff what we created.
Redrum-187: Do you have any favorite songs or albums from your own catalog?
Point Blank: Man! It’s gotta be hard to think… when your mind go blank! That’s something I still perform. I like the songs on the new album even though it’s not out yet but that being said I just speak my mind. The music decides what I’m going to say. It all comes from the heart and what I’m feeling.
Redrum-187: So has anyone tried to Gank the Blank? What happened?
Point Blank: Haha, yeah some have tried… You know everyone will get got but Blank got to have his street game on a top notch level. I don’t have that many problems really. Everyone who’s in the top or in the bottom will get checked one day.
Redrum-187: Is there some rapper you haven’t collaborated yet but would like to?
Point Blank: I’d like to collaborate with Game… pretty much any of the big name rappers in the game right now; Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka… Wayne, Ross, Jeezy, any of ’em. If they want to do a song with Blank it can be done. But I really need to do a song with Scarface. He is a godfather round here. Every time I’ve seen him do a show he has pulled me to the stage. I’d really like to do a show with the godfather of Houston since I’ve been representing Houston so long too.
Redrum-187: So who is your favorite rapper?
Point Blank: Tupac, R.I.P.
Redrum-187: What happened to the Blood & Crip album with Z-Ro?
Point Blank: Well at this time we’ve been doing a lot of different business but we do have album’s worth of material. When we’ve seen each other we’ve talked about doing it and putting it out but we haven’t had the time to really finish it and put it out there. At the moment we’re moving on with the other stuff going on.
Redrum-187: Any shoutouts to your fans in Finland?
Point Blank: I want to send a shoutout to Helsinki, Finland and all of Europe. I want to let you all know we appreciate you supporting our music all these years and I can’t wait to come there to give you one of the best shows I’ve ever done… Classic, new… tear it down and have a good time!
