Mission Statement

The Portland Oregon Hip-Hop Festival (POH-Hop) was a monumental and historic event from the time of it’s creation in 1995. David Parks, Steven Spyryt, Mic Crenshaw, and Terrance Scott had a vision to create an event that gave local hip-hop artists an outlet to expose their art to the masses.

With the support of the community and some of the cities music industry luminaries, POH-Hop exploded on the scene, and was successful even beyond the expectations of its creators and supporters. Over the past 11 years, POH-Hop has featured some of the most talented local artists(Lifesavas, Oldominion, Sandpeople, Braille, Maniac Lok, and more) as well as national stars The Luniz, Mistah FAB, Spearhead, Mac Dre, One Be Lo, Large Professor, Ras Kass, Andre Nickatina, and more.

Not only has POH-Hop benefited local artists in the form of exposure, POH-Hop has also raised and donated funds to The Black Education Center and KBOO Community Radio.

Past sponsors of POH-Hop have been: Vtech Phones, Adidas, Jammin 107.5, Willamette Week, The Portland Mercury, The Oregonian, Liquid Assets Records & Jewelry, Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes, Phoenix Media, Spun Academy, Indamix Records, and More.

U all need to make it out to PO and not miss out on this event. This actually was an event that inspired me as a young teenager to focus on music and dive head first in to the music game. Cool Nutz is always trying to Up the Ante and make us a actaul scene and create a platform to showcase local talents and a networking event to connect us NW Arists. I mean for reals my 1st pohhop I left with a old "Otherside Mag" with hella numbers written in it and grew into huge relationships with Jus Family, Green Leaf, Wolverine, indamix when they was emerge mc's, Mackin Rob, Kuwana, D. Parks, Mic Crenshaw, wicked, chill. This year man everyone will be in the building. Use these events young artists, to start building that bridge that could one day lead to bigger oppurtunities. If theres really a thriving hip-hop scene like there is in real rap markets, than theres a 100 Hungry Emcees and record labels that should be rubbing elbows and networking at Poh-Hop, Summer Jam, West Coast Awards, Huckleberry Jam etc. Hats off to the Cool Nutz and Jus Family Camp for giving us these oppurtunities and being innovative pioneers. and remember the the video clip of Dre on United Ghettos. "Need to step it up." thumb turning up.
