Indeed, i agree that the earths population will increase drastically if we make it to 2050. What i tend to drift back on is the uneven distribution of wealth here in the united states. Approximately the top 10% or the elitists of the country possess about 95% of the countries wealth, to where on the contrary the rest of the 90% of the inhabitants receive the crumbs off the table seeking to survive over 5% of the wealth. Furthermore, an estimated 43 million people in the states are living their lives in poverty. Where the younger and less skilled adults ranging from the ages of 18 to 25 are placed at the bottom of the barrel; where relatively 20% of us younger adults live in poverty. What often encircles my left brains hemisphere is that there is definitely enough wealth to be spread internationally, but yet there are our fellow human beings struggling to stay afloat and to survive others dying of starvation and children suffering from malnutrition out around the world. Simply too much avidity to say the least

One thing people don't realize is that the Earth's population reaching 9 billion by 2050 is the OPTIMISTIC SCENARIO. There is a very significant chance we will never make it to 9 billion because the die off will have already started...

Also, the UN projections for a 9 billion peak and then slow decline are total BS. They are based on the assumption of a demographic transition occurring in the third world, for which to happen, the third world has to develop and get richer. But the third world will never do that because there aren't sufficient resources on the planet to sustain that, therefore there will be no demographic transition. On top of that, the very assumption that as people in the third world get rich, they will have fewer children is shaky - members of the royal family in Saudi Arabia have been fabulously rich for a long time but their reproduction rate hasn't slowed down, to the point where they number in the tens of thousands now. Wonder why is that..

Well, the problem is that people fall in three categories on this issue:

1. People who are all against population control
2. People like you who are all for population control as long as it happens to someone else
3. People who actually understand that they are better off in the long term if we all collectively decided not to have children for a while until we fix whatever can be fixed of the mess we have created

However, the 1:2:3 ratio is something like 10^6 : 10^4 : 10^0

Bottom line: Don't have kids if you can't take care of them. This is a simple matter of human culture. If you are not in a position to feed your children, then why are you having them? The issue isn't over-population, it's unwanted population. Unwanted population means procreating when one isn't planning for it and thus isn't properly situated. This "over-population" scenario will bring such individuals to killing their children, one way or another. Either they will kill in the womb or they will kill them by having them to starve later.
