LOL. This fight must happen...

Manny Pacquiao is not running away from Juan Manuel Marquez.

He never did. He never will.

The Filipino superstar, branded a coward for declining the position as mandatory challenger to the Mexican champion, said he’s willing to face Marquez in September but in his own terms.

“Bakit ako matatakot sa kanya eh tatlong beses ko siya tinumba noon (Why should I be scared of him when I knocked him down thrice before),” Pacquiao told The STAR Tuesday evening.

“Kami ang may offer sa kanya. Kapag tumanggi siya, bakla siya (We’ll make an offer to him. If he refuses, he’s a sissy),” said Pacquiao as he left the Sheraton Hotel where he dined with family and friends.

Last week, the Pacquiao camp formally informed the World Boxing Council they are declining the lofty position, and asked the governing body to name a new challenger for Marquez.

Under WBC set-up, the champion gets 75 percent of the total purse, and the challenger 25 percent. In this case, Pacquiao feels that he deserves more, being the more popular, more exciting fighter.

“Basta, may offer kami sa kanya (We will just give him an offer),” added Pacquiao, who did not mention any amount although it’s very safe to say that it’ll be in the millions of dollars.

Closing the doors on the WBC mandate does not mean that Pacquiao is scared of Marquez, whom he knocked down thrice in the first round of their 2004 showdown that ended in a controversial draw.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao will be with his promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, in the US this week. They are expected to map out their immediate plans, including a possible fight against Marquez or anyone among a list of candidates.

Pacquiao is only hoping that Marquez learned a lesson from Marco Antonio Barrera who was offered early this year by Top Rank $5 million just to face the Filipino hotshot.

But Barrera, under Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which is Top Rank’s bitter rival, said no. Instead, he faced Marquez last March 17 for a much lesser price.

It turned out to be a mistake as Barrera lost his 130-lb title to Marquez, who is also under Golden Boy.

Barrera would have felt better losing to Pacquiao, but with millions more in his bank account.

LOL ! Manny called him Gay, not a sissy like they said in the article... Bakla = Gay.

LMAO.

Really tho, Marquez does have that Asian dude who he's always with, and they do tend to have a wierd physical connection. LMAO.

Anyways, Marquez faced a Pacquaio that had one punch. A straight left. Now I give him credit for outboxing him in the later part of the fight, but a judge mis-scored that fight, with the one point difference being the difference between a draw, and a Pac Man split decision.

Marquez still got his fluid boxing style, but seems to have lost a step since they first met, and Pacquiao seems to have improved. Better head movement, he doesn't lunge in as much, uses the jab to set up combinations, and has a right cross that looks solid.

I'd take Pacquiao in a 7th Round TKO. I feel like his pressure style along with his much improved boxing skills would be too much for Marquez.

Yeah, my filipino students affirmed that 'bakla' definitely means gay. LMAO at Pacquiao dropping that shit on him.

Nonetheless, that's a fight I would have no problem paying for, so they best get that shit situated.

Arum: I Am Waiting For Schaefer's Call To Make Manny Pacquiao vs. Joan Guzman

Michael Marley
WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVE REPORT
5/30/2007

Memo to: Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer

From: Top Rank CEO Robert Arum

Re: Manny Pacquaio vs. Joan Guzman, October 6, Vancouver

Message: Please call 702 732 2717

That’s right, fight fans. Bob Arum is not the type of guy to let a major lawsuit stop him from doing other profitable pugilistic business with a legal adversary. So, even though the Golden Boy himself was deposed by Arum’s uberlawyer Daniel Petrocelli in Los Angeles Wednesday in the ongoing lawsuit over the promotional rights to Pacman, Arum is all ears waiting for a phone call from both Schaefer and Guzman co-promoter Glenn Quiroga of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

“We’ve got a date and we’ve got a venue,” Arum said. “I spoke to the people at the venue late this morning. We’ve got Vancouver for October 6. Let me be clear. We want to do this fight, Pacman vs. Guzman in Canada. I had conversations with the Sycuan people, I met with Scott Woodworth and Scott said he didn’t think I’d want Richard to be part of the negotiations.

“But that’s silly,” Arum said, “I mean, what am I afraid of? That’s just ludicrous. I would be very happy for Richard to take part in the negotiations. I have no problem with that. Let’s get going on this. Don King and I co-promoted fights when we were sueing each other so what’s the problem?”

I made a call to Schaefer at the GBP office and it was returned but we missed connecting. There was no response from an email sent to Quiroga and Woodworth. Guzman manager Jose Nunez was contacted but refrained from comment on the situation.

On this possible megafight, at least, Top Rank and Golden Boy may be in sync because a source with knowledge of the situation told me Wednesday night that GBP’s Schaefer and matchmaker Eric Gomez have plainly said they do not want to hold Guzman, the undefeated Dominican who holds the WBO super featherweight title belt, back if he can get a big money date against the Pinoy national idol.

Further, Arum explained, both Pacman and trainer Freddie Roach have “greenlighted” Guzman as Manny’s next opponent. Despite all the bad blood between them, it seems that Roach and Pacquaio adviser Michael Koncz are on speaking terms at least as far as Manny’s boxing agenda and schedule goes.Or, if the trainer and Koncz do not converse directly they speak through intermediary Bruce Trampler, the Top Rank matchmaker.

And, evidently, Roach and Trampler are in harmony about Pacman’s next foe being Guzman and not Golden Boy’s WBC champ Juan Manuel Marquez.

Arum confirmed as much. Acting through agent Koncz, Pacman last week sent a letter to WBC president Jose Sulaiman which said the Filipino southpaw slugger was not interested in a June 18 purse bid for a title chance against the Mexican Marquez.

“Look, everybody wants Pacman because he is the attraction, because he is where the money is,” Arum said. “Manny will fight Marquez but he wants that to come after he fights Guzman. I know Richard is conflicted because they have Guzman and Marquez but Manny wants to fight Guzman first.”

Sulaiman made a curious comment about Pacman “having a mouse in his shoe,” implying, I guess, that Pacman is fearful of Marquez. Arum said that is utter nonsense.

“What does that expression mean? I’ve never heard it before. What we didn’t want and Manny didn’t want is a 75-25 purse split. Sulaiman can say now it was going to be 50-50 but even that doesn’t work. There will be no Pacquaio-Marquez fight at a 50-50 split.

Pacman will be meeting in person shortly with Arum as he, his wife and children take a vacation in the U.S. Pacman will be in New York for the Boxing Writers Association Dinner June 8 and, the following night, he’ll be at ringside at Madison Square Garden for Arum’s Miguel Cotto-Zab Judah WBA welterweight title bout. Pacman obviously will be more keenly interesting in cheering on his brother Bobby “The Sniper” Pacquaio who fights rugged Mexican mauler Humberto Soto.

It’s up to GBP and Sycuan, Uncle Bob just wants you to play dial a fight.

I take Marquez in a decision.

LOL @ calling him 'gay'...when he doesn't want to fight because of the money. First, negotiate. THEN call him gay. LOL...

I agree Manny needs more than 25%...but Marquez is the champion, so stop crying and fight.

Either that, or go win that election in the Phillipines.

BTW...can't wait for that Soto slaughter. I got him early!

I think Pacman is a victim of horrible management and people advising him to do things he shouldn't be doing (outside the ring more than inside the ring).

With that being said, Pacman is a savage!
I completely agree. He's being led around by the nose like a prize horse...

With that being said, GO MARQUEZ!

Oooh...I see.

LOL

That's cool...Marquez is going to stomp that faggot!

LOL...Nah, I hope this fight happens, though.

Sidenote: I remember hearing...I think in the first Morales fight, a commentator say something about the hype surrounding Pacquio reminding him of the Tyson hype 20 years ago...funny how there's so many shady people around Pacman, too.

^^LOL...

Probably not likely, but I've been a Marquez fan for years, and I know it's possible.

I agree with MOREBASS, though...It looks like Marquez isn't the 'same' as when they fought last time, and Pacquio has been impressive...

Can't wait for it.

Losing to a "bakla" would make you what Mr. Pacquiao?

Mr Pinoy pride needs to keep an eye on his stable mate Humberto Soto who is about to beat the lumpia out of his brother Bobby.
Soon Soto will be knocking on his door, and Soto is no Larios.
