when is the point where YOU leave your beat alone and say it's done?

I just made a beat with 7 tracks - kick, snare, hat, various other hat additions, bassline, lead, and rhodes...

it sounds so PHAT just to listen to like that and vocals I think would totally complete the beat.

Another time I made a beat with over 20 tracks in it...and it sounded a little over produced (LOL)...no room for the vocals...

I think over-production is one of the most COMMON mistakes we as producers make from time to time...Due to the fact that u haven't heard lyrics over the beat, you keep wantin to add shit to make it "full"...But WITH vocals, that usually fills in the "missing instrument"...I've started simplifying my shit too and it sounds ALOT better
