Any sound techs in the place? I have no idea how much 100 decibles is...soundwise...I am planning a free community Hip Hop event with an attendence of 3000-3500. Is 100 decibles loud enough for a crowd that size? That is the city park's limit or we'll get shut down.

Don't worry, 100 db will do you fine. Just have the speakers in a fairly high altitude so that the sound will not be absorbed by people directly in front of the speakers. The sound will still be diffused regardless but not as much. With some clever positioning you'll do fine with 100 db. Place the speakers in a location where they don't have anything right in front of them.

I don't know if phasing would be an issue in an open space. If anyone has any experience setting up a live system it would help. But it's best to keep the speakers non-parrelel is working with symetrical structures. Phasing is when sound is about 30 ms (more or less) apart and leads to sound cancellations, which in turns makes the audio seem lower in places where phasing occurs.

Hope that helps.

Yes...it's for the kids...to support youth arts charities. No cursing, no foulness. I don't see positive and family oriented as automatically being "east coast", especially since many of the openers will be local from Phoenix and out of Cali and the NW as well. It's too bad the West Coast is branded as a bunch of negative, bitch-slapping gangbangers, but that is exactly the stigma we are trying to avoid with this event.

^ I SAID EAST COAST "FLAVORED" MEANIN' THAT THEY CAN BE FROM N-E-WHERE BUT SWING OF PRE-DOMINANT EASTCAOST STYLES AND CONCEPTS. BUT I NOTICED THAT IN A BUNCH OF CHARITY EVENTS, A LOT OF ACTS WERE CONTRADICTIN' WHAT THE FUNCTION WAS ALL ABOUT. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED N-E CHRISTIAN RAPPERS?

BUT IF YOU AIN'T KNOWIN' ABOUT MY MUSIC, IT'S ALL REALITY. NOT NO COMIC BOOK SHIT OR BRAggIN' ALL THE TIME. IT'S SOME MELODIC, SMOOTH TYPE SHIT. VERY EXPRESSIVE.

If rappers happen to be Christian, that's cool, but I don't want it to be a preachy Jesus-fest either. People can be positive without shoving their doctrine down people's throats...a lot of Christian rappers do that. I do have one Christian act already booked by the name of The Lifesavas. They are my boys from back home and they deliver messages in a way that is relatable to people of all faiths.

Positive doesn't equal preachy...we're trying to raise money for youth arts charities and do it through a family event vibe where Hip Hop is celebrated...I just don't want cursing around the little kids out there. Hip Hop needs a face lift and better image for those white people and others who see it as nothing but violence and mysoginy (SP). This is a great way to show a lack of culture climate like Phoenix that Hip Hop is a true artform with many forms.

You would say that. I feel sorry for you that you think positive=white washed. That's just plain ignorant.

YOU TRYIN' TO FRONT FOR THE MASSES THAT NEVA gAVE RAP OR HIP-HOP A CHANCE. I NEVA SAID POSITIVE=WHITE WASHED. YOU TRYIN' TO SERVE IT TO THOSE WHO NEVA gAVE A FUK ABOUT RAP OR PEOPLE CENTRALIZED IN THAT (SUB)CULTURE.

No. I'm trying to get money for the kids through a positive image of hip hop. There are many MCs doing positive things for Hip Hop. Those are the people we are having at our event. There is enough focus on the crap rap and gangster shit in mass media. This event is to break those stereotypes and show the underbelly of hip hop that is affluent on the underground. A lot of white people (AZ is very white) have not been exposed to anything other than what they see on TV or hear on the radio. Here is their chance to see a different side of hip hop that is not stereotypical.

I've done my research...I know a lot about Hip Hop and the kind of event I want. Not having MC GrabMyDickBitch doesn't meand I'm sugar-coating the event. If the event is for kids, I don't need the families who are present to be offended by shit they already hear 24/7 anyway. This is about expanding minds and raising money. Talib Kweli and Common are my top headlining choices and they don't rap to brag. They talk about real shit. Life, the struggle, Hip Hop, women, family, community, etc. Those are the messages we are going for. Young people are subject to enough bullshit. I'm not going to add to that.
