spybot search n destory << useless for most things but has a nice lil set of tools like Registry Detection and Start Up Control

AVG Anti Virus = Does The Job
AVG Anti Spyware = Does The Job

^ only 3 things i recommend.... get AVG from a torrent to get all the extras ;)

if u can tell me what the virus did or what the virus is called i could probably help alot more :)

The only reason I didn scan the file is because I've d/l from there before w/o any problems.

I think I made it worse. I was trying to do a system restore but now windows won't fully boot. I was able to get in before in safe mode but know I can't get there. Like I said I think I'm screwed.

System restore is a useless option because it backs up the virus aswell...so restoring will only reinstall the virus ;) so most people turn that crappy option off the 2nd they install fresh xp..

If he installs xp over wont all his music go bye bye?
most smart people partition there harddrives so the installation is on a seperate harddrive heres mine for example

(C) XP
(D) Music
(E) Personal Rips
(F) Tv Shows
(G) Movies
(H) More Movies
(I) Lots More Movies
(J) Game Installs
(K) Images
(L) Cracks/Installs Images

each letter being a partition so if i delete (C) and reinstall XP on (C) only XP is deleted..

make sense ?
