::shakes head::

Just put on The Devils Rejects, tape a William Shatner mask to your TV, and you'll have the same film waaaaaaaaay in advance.

Dude should have made The Crow 15 years ago like he was supposed to.

There a number of problems with Rob Zombie and his directing.... First off, I like House of, and Devils Rejects. They were "new" in the way of you hadn't seen that type of film in a long time. But he wasn't doing anything but resurrecting old 70's slasher type shit... Violent deaths, all on-screen... yay.... Seen it. Plus, there were already a hundred other movies like that coming out anyhow. Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw... meh.

It seems if the dude didn't have a rape scene to direct, he wouldn't know what to do with himself.

"Oh my god did that guy just cut off that dudes face!?"

Seen it.

"Oh my god is that freak gonna rape a bitch??"

Seen it.

"Oh no... He's not wearing that dudes face is he!?"

Seen it.

The guy just keeps writing/directing the same fucking movie, just with a different mask.

Maybe he does use some of the same types of scenes within his movies, Zero. However, I think his directing is top notch.

It is hard as a director to make an audience identify with characters who are so deviant and ruthless, and he does that very well. Plus the scene at the end of Devil's Rejects where they are shooting out of the car at the police is one of my favorite scenes of any movie ever. THAT'S how you use pre-existing music to score a scene.

I don't think its fair to compare his directing style to typical slasher movies like Texas Chain Saw Massacre or something, because the character development in those movies is crap compared to Zombie's movies.

You can play ANYTHING to Freebird, as long as it's in slow motion, and it will be the shit. That had nothing to do with the directing. Try it. Fuck, you can walk in slow motion to Freebird and you won't feel stupid.

That's because the whole point of the genre is that there is no character development. The reality is, that just because a guy (specifically from Devils Rejects) makes a funny joke or two, that doesn't make him a likeable character. Do you honestly "identify" with cutting off peoples faces and wearing them as masks (where have I seen that before)?

No.

But the dude makes a funny comment in the movie and you're going to tell me that you "identify" with that character all of a sudden?

Rob Zombie is good at finding out of the way, dirty, old locations for his films. Or perhaps I should say... His location scout is good at finding his out of the way, dirty, old locations. The film stock gives his movies the feeling, not his directing.

Edit: Also, if you want to talk about "pre-existing" film score... Watch a Tarantino film.
