Can anyone recommend me some of thier music. I just ordered Damnation because I was in the mood for something dark and mellow, but I understand they also make pretty heavy music. I think I've seen a few people on this board talk about them (a star impaled??), so help me out if you can folks. Thanks.

Fuck yes.

Ghost Reveries is their best album hands down, imo. But then again thats probably my opinion because its slightly more melodic and less thrashy (but still METAL for sure). But a lot of fans agree too.

ill upload it right now for you and paste the link when i get home in a couple hours

Damnation is good too... although most "long time" fans consider "Blackwater Park" to be their best album. Either that or Ghost Reveries

The Drapery Falls, Blackwater Park and To Bid You Farewell are some of my favorites. Off Damnation Windowpane is a pretty good song. I've liked Opeth for a while now, ever since I heard Drapery. Check those four songs out and you should be happy with them.

Opeth - Ghost Reveries

#3, 4, and 5 are the best songs on the album. Put these together and its one long epic fucking piece of flawless metal music. Ive never heard a metal group make a song like Atonement.
Good looking out Psilo. I've always heard of Opeth too and that they were pretty good but I've never heard any of their stuff. I'm downloading it now and will listen when I get home from work.

Thanks again.

Right on everyone for the help. And endless props to psilo on the album:) . I'll let you know what I think of it when I get a chance to listen. I've heard of Katatonia but never heard their music. I'll try to check them out too.

I'm on the second track right now, just drinking beer, smoking a dubee, and soaking this in. I'm puzzled by how people are turned off and even disgusted by this kind of music without even looking into how much thought and how well the musicianship is in it. Dope album though. The changing vocal styles is nice, it keeps the music from getting repetitive.

I'll give my full impression when I've made it to the end.

So I got to the end. I'm really feeling this album. Oddly enough the clean vocals are probably my least favorite part, but that's not to say they're bad. Tracks 1, 5, and 7 appealed to me most on the first listen. I don't know about the last song though:ermm:
