I was having discussion with a friend of mine, and we thinking about getting a loan from the bank and opening up a studio for renting studio time as well as using it for personal use.

I'd like some advice from some professionals (Mr. D-sane,etc) about the costs of this, a list of equipment that will be needed, if this is profitable, etc. and any other advice.

I'd like this to be serious, plz feel free to give me ur msn/aim, I'd like to discuss this extensivly. Thanks.

my opinion, it could be profitable but a lot of people are going to home digital studios (pro tools etc.) which is very inexpensive and the quality of musik is just as good right out the house, if you are in a good area, go for it. best of luck dogg.

There are just so many angles and possibilities. Really the best thing to do is.....figure out what your budget is and who/what you're competing with.

First of all.....the chances of you getting a loan from a bank are nill to none. I was trying to get a loan a few years ago for my label and the first thing most banks I talked to required was that your business had already BEEN in business for 2 years. Then from there you have to go through the whole application process and all that shit.....it's a nightmare. I'm not saying that it's impossible.....just unlikely unless you got some outstanding credit. So yeah.....first thing you're gonna need to do is figure out your financial situation.

Next....location? Home or commercial space? Will you need to do any construction? How nice of a studio are we talkin' about? You could spend anywhere from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands. Also.....how big? Are you trying to be a full featured studio with huge rooms that will accomodate different genres (such as rock bands, etc) or are you trying to keep it down to just electronic music that will require you to pretty much only need a recording booth? How isolated do you want your booth to be? You could spend thousands of dollars just on that alone!

Equipment? Analog or digital recording? If so....what system? The possibilities are just endless. Are you going to have your rooms acoustically treated by a pro?

Are you going to advertise? Have intro specials? Have well known producers/engineers working with you?

You have lots to think about......but like I said.....it's pretty much gonna start with your budget. So maybe as soon as you come with a $$$ amount.....maybe some of us can give you some advice on how to spend it so that you can get the best bang for your buck.
