first and foremost here is the link..
http://www.openlabs.com/

O.k. so Its getting to a point with people talking about this and that and recomending things, this is it. two friends of mine just got this. One got the miko for 3700,and the other got a floor model for 2600. one of em had to get rid of some equipment to get it,but with the synth clone and the other partner having almost any synth /workstation you could imagine its not an issue. The one who got rid of some equipment will still keep his mpc4000,sp1200,and Asr10....the other has a guitar center/museum in his own house AND HAS THE LUXURY TO keep em all.
Anyways Ive heard some say at that price they could build a computer and this and that....When you realize what you are getting,is when you realize the power and beauty of this thing. So we have artists like Timberalnd etc etc ..who arent sponsered reps who are verbally endorsing these things. It also can be customized to your specs if you want more faders etcor different break out box. so what does it do
Simply this is more then the Holy Grail of sound modules. on youtube somewhere some guy tells about him having 1 million patches....so yes you can load every soft synth, and plug in that you can think of. So with the available vst available is the synthesizer clone even necessary? that was my major selling point.yes you see people salngin c.ds with the triton sounds or fantom sounds..wich have been sampled from the boards to the c.d in a wave format...which isnt really close...too many factors. Well this not only takes the raw sound but automatically gets all the midi info and parameters for each and every patch. straight out the box this thing has more and better sounds then 90% of us on this board. And they already come with a grip of cloned keyboards wich they bought the trademark rights from these companies...example the proteus 2000.....it aint called the proteeza 2000 its called the proteus 2000...again with all the synths cloned on board and vsts...well if you dont have pro tools Hd or better then this will blow your whole computer recording studio out the water.I aint impressed with the little presonus mic pre...but imagine you are making beats with this you can run all your instruments through SSL plug ins...which many havent even had that luxury or any other plug in you want and send it to protools all in the same machine........so all you have to do is record your voacls, and Bammm. some may say well i have enough vsts and I can record on my computer. Its not just what it can do but how it does it as far as layout and being able to route things on one screen and have 500 plug ins or vsts running without a hiccup and zero latency...so the neko is the big brother..but its almost too big...the meko is where its at and next month the timberland edition and other mekos are going for $3899 wich probably will go down a bit to$3000..either way this is probably all most of the people on here would ever need.

So your going to run VSTs on it, yet you make countless threads bashing software and what not saying they ain't analog enough,etc...?

cmon bro, a combination of hardware/software is the way to go and that's exactly what this Miko is.

Definitely a GREAT a machine though.

i aint getting rid of the mpc...haha..but the biggest reason why I bash is because i just loike to strike a nerve..works dont it? I might keep my ATC..but shit like the motif thas gonna be gone 1st...Also I dont like working with a computer.....up until now there hasnt been anything like this...something thats powerful enough and something that puts it all together.....i said in the past I would use a computer as a sound module, cause I dont beleive any sound is bad...I still wouldnt use reason or fruity loops.

do any stores have these where you can try the shit out?
I watched all the videos on the website and it seems pretty nice, just want to see one in person and somebody actually using it.

Imone of my friends ordered one the other bought the floor model in hollywood..either sam ash or guitar center,i don t expect every store to have a floor demo....I was impressed....it has a 15 monitor but my boy hooked up his vga wich allows you to see multiple screens...At the very least..this allows you to have as big of a library of vsts as you want...thats a big sound module....you can check videos on you tube..pollo the don says he has 1 million patches...and he sounded impressed by quality of mixing everything in the box...he has the neko wich you can run pro-tools on..has more faders more knobs inputs etc...the miko you can run cubase...and other shit...but This is one of them things thats powerful enough to make it...fuck it..hhaaa you gotta see for yourself..also you can have them customize to your specs....also built extremely well...wasnt cheap and flimsy

These products are real nice. And you can get them customized. personally I wouldn't even buy it from a commercial store, I would try to get my hands on one, and find out what I want. Then I would order a custom one. Open Labs will customize your shit to a T.

Peace.

You just midi it up and I think it does the rest...It samples the sound and then the parameters and info via midi...this was a major interest and I kept on telling my homie..i had to see it to beleive it,and he said it does it...thats not good enough for me..i need to see,he said he wasnt even trippin on that feature..it was cool to have though.....I went over seen the shit for myself...not the mimik(clone) he was right this keyboard is so much more then the clone....Imagine just having this and an mpc(not that ya need that..just if ya like the mpc which i do..and use this as a giant sound module, with 15 touch screen, hook up a monitor via vga and you have two screens to lok at..wich you can route through a uad card you can install or through some ssl plug ins.....sure you can build a computer...but this integrates it all for a great price.....people can spend $2,000 on a motif etc...and then still want more sounds/expansion cards and sooner then later its maxed out..polo the don having 1 million patches..he says he doesnt play video games as much and its much more fun to make music cause you never know what you gonna find with all them plug ins he has.....

How big is the harddrive on this thing?!?!?!? Sounds like it must be a Terrabyte or 2. I'm wondering how this thing can clone so many things and hold them all, yet still be able to hold programs like plugins,hosts,etc...

EDIT:

OK I found the specs on the drive

Storage
Miko LX (1) 250GB, 7200RPM HD; Upgradeable to 1.5 Terabytes
Miko SE (1) 160GB, 7200RPM HD; Upgradeable to 1.5 Terabytes

I don't think that 250GB version would hold up with all that cloning and what not. That 1.5 TB upgrade is a must I think.

so you'll still have to know somebody who actually has the real keyboards and shit tho right??
Also, how many sounds can you have goin at the same time, I'm assuming more than the standard 16 of a keyboard. And does this shit come loaded with vst's or you gotta buy them seperately

Looks like it comes pre-loaded with some VSTs. To be honest, alot of those are kinda wack or atleast so-so. There's a lot of freeware ones on that list, so it's not like your getting some top of the line new VSTs that barely hit the market. :ermm: I would rather add in my own to be honest than rely on those.

they are also working on cloning synths i beleive and you will be able to hook this keyboard to the net and they can upload em to the keyboard i heard...they give you a bundle of vsts, but you can add your own as well..my boy already has the UAD card and ssl plug ins..and about 25,000 patches.....he has to keep loading some more...cause the other guy accidentally erased em by trying to do something......Its definitley worth a look
