Local authorities said Grimace's long time best friend, Birdie the Early Bird, found him unresponsive in a ball pit early this morning. This comfirms a post by the Hamburgler earlier today on Twitter that read "@ Grimace: U aint moved in 3 hours, you gonna finish that McDouble?"
Mayor McCheese has issued this statement: "Today is a sad day in playland. Even tho nobody knew what Grimace was, his fat lard ass will be missed. He dropped dollars into our dollar menu like he was at a strip club, almost single handedly keeping us afloat during these hard economic times. If not for the recent appetite of Jessica Simpson our company may have been forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy with his passing."
TMZ has learned that the Fry Guys have voulenteered to be the paul bearer at his funeral. Ronald McDonald could not be reached for comment at press time.
