08-05) 20:38 PDT -- The Raiders released their first official depth chart of training camp Tuesday, and the lack of surprises was not surprising.
Only two positions remain fluid: center and strong-side linebacker, and those jobs are considered Jake Grove's and Ricky Brown's, respectively, to lose.
Compare it to last year, when first-year coach Lane Kiffin had three quarterbacks listed as co-starters and openings across the board.
"We know so much more about our guys than we did a year ago," Kiffin said. "There's not as much competition as there was a year ago for the last spots and depth-chart movement. We're in a different place than last year."
So is Brown, an undrafted rookie in 2006 who spent the past two seasons strictly playing special teams for Oakland.
He spent the first week of camp running with the first-team defense, alongside entrenched starting linebackers Kirk Morrison in the middle and Thomas Howard on the weak side.
Brown has been limited in practice this week by back and knee injuries. Still, he is listed as the starter ahead of Robert Thomas and Sam Williams.
Asked about Thomas playing first-team defense this week, Kiffin said, "Ricky being banged up and not out here is a big reason for that."
"I think a lot of guys are getting their shot," said Brown, who hasn't played strong-side linebacker - where he lines up across from the opposing tight end - since college.
TV blackout: Friday's exhibition opener against the visiting 49ers isn't a sellout and will be blacked out on local television.
The game will be shown on tape delay Friday at 11:30 p.m. on Channel 5.
Sick bug: An illness that started with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has spread to several other players and team employees, including safety Jarrod Cooper.
Asomugha received a second day of IV treatment but is expected back today.
Also, strong safety Gibril Wilson missed practice with an ongoing knee injury that has bothered him since offseason workouts. He'll be limited in Friday's game.
Briefly: The Raider Nation Celebration is at noon Sunday at the Coliseum. The team will run a live practice for the second straight year. Admission is free. ... Receiver Javon Walker caught a 5-yard touchdown pass on a quick inside slant from JaMarcus Russell. ... Raiders practiced with 4th-down drills. The first-team defense beat the offense 3-1, with defensive end Kalimba Edwards getting two sacks.
