damn where do I start. How do you review an album from someone you have great respect for? It has been stated from Lil C.S. that people aint knowing or are hating. How do I express myself without sounding biased and or hating? Being Im gonna be putting projects out(got 2 on the shelf and 2 in the works) Is it fair I review it? Under the other posts he or his fans started the same people gave him a review of a classic album.I would Like to hear from others besides myself who arent biased.
Anyways I feel the only way I can pull this off is say what I like about it and what i didnt.
O.k lets talk about sound quality, Ive got no complaints Its at least of a standard quality being recorded fairly well.
Beats-I was under the impression that the beats was all smashing-fact or fiction? I will say that It was intersting to hear a producer Im not familiar with(mackvillian) he is by no means wack but im not sure if he is only using one piece of equipment to make the beats or these are just ones picked by lil c.s. because he used alot of similar sounds in may beats, wich made some beats sound to similar. out of all his beats I liked about 2.(one being grind music) Rasan 0f the jetzons I was feelin I think the second beat by him. steve vicious 1st beat wasnt extraordinary, but solid musically(arangement) crickets beat was cool as well. the ecay beat was horrible and I dont know if it was because of the mixdown but you cant hear a kick or snare( THE STAPLE OF RAP MUSIC) even if you could it was alright.
Now the raps first and foremost the verse wer all pretty tight, but verses dont necessarily make a tight song.I felt the energy and flow of each and every rapper, all being lyrically solid.the hooks i think could have been distributed around more, lil c.s. does have an old school vibe.I could be wrong but it may be he writes the hook and the others write on that concept.
so when i judge an albums worthiness or value one factor I use is would I use any of the songs when I dub some songs on a c.d for friends. I cant think of one that would make the c.d. But remeber that we all have our own particular tastes in music.
That being said suggestions I would give .because I feel they have all the ingredients but with some honest criticism could elevate them to another level
1.More solo songs, sometimes 16, or 8 bars aint enough to express yourself. Also not all rappers no matter how tight they are are a perfect match, then you have tight verses ANd an o.k. song.
2.letting the artist come up with the hook after he listens to the beats can make that song more personal cause the verse will come from what hes feelin on an emotional level from the instrumental. Not drawing on someone elses experience with it.
3.Im guilty of this as well(so I should follow my own advice)
I pick all the beats cause I like them.If the artist picks he may initially after hearing the beat be able to tell if its a good fit for him(of course you gotta over ride it if its wack) but you have faith in the artist abilitys so they usually have an idea of what beat will compliment them the most.
2.If you pick a producer to carry most the load give him ample time or pick new beats as well as some older ones cause as a producer if we aint capable or lack the experience we may make songs that sound similar cause just like a rapper we draw from our experiences and emotions so depending on how we feal can effect the energy
i hope I didnt bore anyone and I hope some of this may be helpful to some and remember this aint the law its just one mans opinion and I hope the best for every artist hustlin to put out good music
