The monkey represents the lawmakers that wrote the stimulus bill. It has nothing to do with Obama contrary to what everyone is saying. The cartoonist is tying in 2 news stories together: the chimp that attacked that lady and the signing of the stimulus package. The cartoonist is showing his disapproval of the stimulus bill and is trying to joke around by saying that a monkey wrote it. Obama has absolutely nothing to do with this cartoon.
everyone would rather assume racism. gives the sensitive folks a reason to complain. its a fucking cartoon, if its a burning cross, alright, we can all get together and take action. Something this small, who cares.

Something "this small", can easily turn into "accepted culture", of demeaning African-Americans.

You are making no sense

1. The stimulus package and the monkey story have ENTIRELY NOTHING to do with each other. Why link them?

2. Obama signed the stimulus bill into law and your own words are, "the cartoonist is showing his disapproval of the bill and is trying to joke around by saying that a monkey wrote it". You don't see where Obama is being caricatured as a dead monkey yet?

3. The monkey is being shot dead by the NYPD. The racist history of the NYPD speaks for itself.

If you don't recognize the overtly racial overtones of this cartoon, you probably couldn't recognize a Ford next to a BMW.

Would you accept being demeaned on any level? If I call you a booty-bandit, fag-loving, gay-ass, dicksucker, this thread would go in a whole other direction, because you would stand up for yourself. So for you to expect African-Americans as a people to accept this kind of behavior, you wouldn't expect if from yourself.......And if you think demeaning African-Americans is accepted culture, you are the kind of people that this cartoon is meant to appeal too.

I didn't make a stance on the cartoon or say how anyone should act towards it, I was just stating a fact.

^^ I'm in the military, certain people treat us like shit. Thats life man, not everyone is going to like you, for whatever reason. You dwelling on it just empowers that behavior.
At least thats my opinion.

If you choose to be treated like shit that's your choice. I understand that a person can't please everybody. But to ignore racism is to accept racism. Nobody is dwelling on racism, just pushing back when being pushed. Would you ignore someone that would demean the image of your mom, child, or other loved one, i think not.

1. I know they have nothing to do with each other. The cartoonist is simply tying the 2 events to create one cartoon in which he uses the chimp story to make fun of the stimulus package.

2. Obama SIGNED the bill. Did he WRITE it? No. The cartoonist is making fun of the lawmakers who wrote it.

3. The monkey is being shot by police, but where does it say that it is the NYPD? Look at the picture and look for any insignia that shows it's NYPD. They were actually Connecticut police since that is where the shooting of the chimp occurred.

I would recognize overtly racial overtones if there were any

doesn't bother me none. Looking at the comic. I say the cartoonist should be more worried about a whole lot of politicians taking it as a threat and ruining his career in retaliation.

when i first saw the cartoon i thought it was calling all politicians in general monkeys.

this reminds me of the south park where chef wants them to change the south park flag that shows like 6 white stick figures hanging a black stick figure but the boys didnt think it was racist because they didnt see it in terms of black and white

HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! I think most political cartoons would fly over the head of most people.
