Influencing the Party platform: state and national
A message from Scott Hinchee, Convention Field Coordinator
July 7, 2004
Dear supporters,

Please join us in our efforts to influence the Democratic Party platform. This Friday and Saturday, Kucinich staff and supporters will represent your concerns at the one and only meeting of the Democratic Platform Committee in Miami, Florida. Our platform work is already attracting attention and support. An Associated Press article posted Friday has been picked up by newspapers across the country (read article) and the editor of The Nation magazine is calling on her readers and all Democrats to join the Kucinich campaign in pushing the Democrats by signing our petitions and writing letters to the Platform Committee (read article).

Act now to help influence the direction of the Democratic Party. We already have hundreds of supporters drafting letters urging the inclusion of the values that we are passionate about in the Democratic platform. In the next 24 hours, we’d like to double those numbers. Please direct your letters by email or fax to Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. She is co-chair of the Platform Committee and represents the district in Cleveland next to Dennis. Her contact information is as follows:

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones
Fax: 216-751-8241
Email: [email protected]

As you know from our petition drive, the issues we want the Democratic Party to take a stand on are: setting an end date for the occupation of Iraq, creating a Department of Peace, switching to a universal single-payer health care system, canceling NAFTA and withdrawing from the WTO, recognizing LGBT equal marriage rights, and protecting civil liberties (repeal of PATRIOT Act). Please include any issues that you feel passionately about in your letters, but we ask you to specifically mention ‘U.N. in, U.S. out’ because we believe that a concerted lobbying effort on this issue could be of great consequence.

Recognizing state Democratic parties
At the state level, many of our grassroots state campaigns have been successful in influencing their platform. Two weeks ago, I wrote a letter of thanks (see: Kucinich Progressive Values Being Widely Embraced) recognizing a number of state campaigns that passed progressive, pro-peace planks and resolutions into their platform. After it was sent out, supporters in Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Iowa, Idaho, and Minnesota brought to my attention similar measures that were passed or nearly passed (Idaho) by their state conventions. As it turns out, our campaign has accomplished even more than I initially reported. Let’s take another moment to recognize the well-informed and open-minded Democrats from these states who officially endorsed the following progressive values.

And please contact me if there was a platform plank or resolution victory in your state that has not been recognized!

Thank you to...

Alaska

Signing the Kyoto protocol, ratifying the Convention on Land Mines and joining the International Criminal Court.
Repealing the PATRIOT Act
Supporting the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Peace
Stop developing the National Ballistic Missile Defense Program and strive towards the elimination of all U.S. Weapons of Mass Destruction.
UN in; US out
Universal Single-Payer Healthcare
Hawaii

The elimination of the use of depleted uranium in the U.S. arsenal
Terminating all development, deployment, and testing of WMD’s
UN in; US out
Repealing the PATRIOT Act
Opposing the Federal Marriage Amendment
Supporting the creation of a Department of Peace
Voter verified paper trails for elections
Universal pre-kindergarten care and college education
Canceling NAFTA and withdrawing from the WTO
Reducing the military budget by 25% in order to spend more money on a domestic agenda.
Texas

Affirming a minimum living wage.
Supporting the break up of monopolistic agribusiness and protecting the integrity of the organic food standard.
The use of medical cannabis as prescribed by a doctor
A moratorium on executions
Creating a cabinet-level Department of Peace
Iowa

Creating a cabinet-level Department of Peace
Minnesota
(These resolutions were approved by the majority of the delegates at the Minnesota DFL Convention.)

Department of Peace
support for LGBT civil marriage rights
Canceling NAFTA and the WTO
Idaho

Idaho--often referred to as the most Republican state in the Union--was just 7 votes shy (out of approximately 200) of passing a Department of Peace resolution

Now is the time for us to build on this momentum and to send a strong message to the National Democratic Party. There is much that we can do!

Don’t forget, everyone is invited to join us in Boston during the week of the Democratic National Convention. If you are unable to travel to Boston, please make sure that your like-minded friends and family are aware of our exciting week of activities. We have a full week of workshops, social events, and rallies planned that will educate and inspire all who attend. In addition, our presence in Boston will draw attention to these issues that unite us. For more details about convention week activities or housing that we are making available, check out our website.

These are exciting times to be creating change. Together we will make this progressive vision a reality.

With gratitude,

Scott Hinchee

Yeah, I don't agree w/ the whole GLBT thing, but I am against any referendum or act which sets a precident againsnt discrimination. He also wants to legalize Bud, abolish the death penalty, and as I've said before his tax structure is favored by "Reagan Democrats" go to his website and search under his taxes. He's the man, plus (beside the fact that he's from the hood) when he was governor or mayor many many years ago in the late 70's or early 80's (I think the youngest in our history) he mooned the crowd! now that's off the hook...

So I briefly chopped it up with Kucinich today. There was a governors meeting in seattle - about 3,000 or more people showed up to protest and march. A number of Unions were present along with Kucinich who spoke. Probably about 4 or 5 socialist/communist parties were there as well.

Anyways, Kucinich came over to the table I was at and I asked him if he wanted one of our socialist newspapers, which he agreed to take. The front page of the newspaper has the famous Abu Ghraib prison scandal photo and he started saying what a tragedy it was and how we need to get our troops home ASAP, I agreed and we talked a little bit more about Iraq. He said we (as in the socialist group I was with) were doing a fine job and to keep it up. lol, he walked off with a socialist newspaper in his hand that says, "Vote Nader" at the bottom of the front page.

reducing the military budget by 25%? Are u fucking kidding me? We need to increase it, We are vastly undersized, its not a good sign when ur soldiers are living off wel-fare. Communist Parties are the worse thing to ever happen. Your beliefs are stupid at best. Not to mention any government that is communist is destined to colapse on its self.

DaytonFamily, time and time again you have displayed your ignorance. Do you know at all about socialism? Can you explain to me, in your own words, what socialism is? Have you ever ONCE IN YOUR LIFE read anything regarding communism? Ever read Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, Engels, Mao, Guevara etc?

@Rippa, it's called Socialist Alternative.

lol! Nice google search. It's funny, the first link you listed happens to be the first link that comes up on a google search.

Try explaining in your own words.

I seriously don't give a shit if people don't agree with socialism, but it irrates the fuck out of me when people who don't have a fucking clue what it's about critisize and say the same shit, "Oh it's good in theory but it doesn't work." Why? Explain to me why.

Socialist Men Under Red Father

Dayton, i'll explain communism for a simple minded fool like you the best way i know how. I know a young guy like yourself probably loves to watch cartoons. Have you seen the smurfs, do kids still watch that show now a days?

Communism = smurfs.

First off we have papa smurf, he's like Karl Marx

Papa Smurf

Karl Marx

Just so your up to speed Papa smurf = Karl marx, don't they look alike?

They think alike too, now in Papa smurf's Smurf village there is no money, smurfs are never greedy. Everything they have is shared equally between them. In smurftown you do not see any homeless people, there is no sick people who can not get help, there is no one without education. So you see dayton, I know you probably don't like to read much, and don't have a proper understanding of a lot of things. But this is one thing you can learn just by watching the entire season's of the smurfs. I think Gargamel represents the capitalist american's, he's always trying to kill the smurf's or turn them into gold or something, which represents greed. Also if you watch the smurfs you know that papa smurf is always saying that one day he will move on and the younger smurfs will have to lead themselfs, this is another aspect of communism. In the final stages of communism a leader is no longer needed.

If you would like to learn more about communism, you can download some smurf television shows on kazaa, or hit me up on AIM, and i'll hook you up.

I know how hard it is to admit sometimes that you don't know something, but that's alright dayton we going to fix you up real nice, we have you watching the whole 1st season of the smurfs by next month, then we can start on season 2. If your interested in learning of course.

Look i found more things you can learn dayton.

I doubt a young buck like you has ever heard of a man named Leon Trotsky, but now because of the smurfs you can! You won't have to read some big boring book, with no pictures no sir, this knowledge can be acheived directly by watching the smurfs and the smurfs alone.

Brainy Smurf

Leon Trotsky

Brainy smurf = Leon Trotsky.

It's amazing stuff, and maybe a little over your head right now, but after watching a few episodes you should be alright.

But let me introduce you to a few more smurf characters anyways, i want you to meet the workers. In communism the workers are very important, same with the smurf village.

Farmer Smurf

Handy Smurf

Notice the smile on their faces? It's because in Communism, the workers actually have rights. Yup communism shows love to the worker. That's why this smurfs are so happy.

Next Lesson, Communists are too busy working to care about social occurances, they only wed in order to have a cook and a cleaner. There for all of their woman are beastly things you'd never want to stick your dick in.

The only girl worth fucking doesn't get any because the other Smurf men are too busy to stick. There for she bangs herself with a giant wooden smurf dildo as seen here...

Ahh, maybe i was wrong, if these concepts are too hard for fridge to understand i don't know how dayton will be able to handle it. Now you see thats not a big large dildo, it's a baseball bat. In communism, Women have equal rights and are allowed to play in sports, they are not just expected to be in the kitchen making food. In fact the cooking is shown done by males, in the smurf episodes as shown here:

You see it's a kid's cartoon, so there were no steamy sex scenes with Smurfette, or Sassette smurf.

Sassette smurf

Smurfette

As for the black smurf, i have yet to see that episode, so when i do i'll get back to you on that.

so anyways in a quick review for dayton, here's what we got so far.

Papa Smurf

Karl Marx

_________________________________________________________________________

Brainy smurf

Leon Trotsky

__________________________________________________________________________

Gargamel

Uncle Sam

____________________________________________________________________________

So in conclusion:

Papa Smurf = Karl Marx

Brainy Smurf = Leon Trotsky

Gargamel = Uncle Sam

And the female smurfs represent equality among the sexes, that is a key thing in communism Equality.
