MARYLAND NIGHTHAWKS PROPOSE INTERLEAGUE TRADE FOR RON ARTEST
16-Dec-2005
Rockville, MD. ABA Maryland Nighthawk All-Star Guard Randy "White Chocolate" Gill and team owner Tom Doyle will be featured on ESPN's Cold Pizza to discuss a proposed trade for the Indiana Pacers' Ron Artest. The feature will take place on Fri, Dec 16 at 830am on ESPN2, Channel 43 on Montgomery County Cable stations.
The proposed trade would send two of their star players, Randy "White Chocolate" Gill and Lawrence Moten, to the Pacers in exchange for Ron Artest, who has publicly discussed his desire to be traded from the Pacers. Gill's star was launched when he won a nationally televised "Streetball" competition on MTV. Moten previously played in the NBA for the Grizzlies and Wizards.
Explaining his rationale for supporting the proposed deal, Tom Doyle stated, "Ron Artest would be a great addition to an already great team - and this would give Randy Gill and Lawrence Motel the opportunity to showcase their talent to the NBA." He further stated, "What people are beginning to realize is that the talent in the ABA is beginning to look like the talent in the original ABA when the league introduced such superstars as Dr. J, Connie Hawkins, Spencer Haywood, Moses Malone, David Thompson, Rick Barry and other great players who went on to star in the NBA. Randy and Lawrence can play in the NBA if given a chance - and we'll see if Ron Artest can play in the "team oriented offenses and defenses of the ABA."
The Nighthawks are currently 9-3 and looking to take control of the ABA's Connie Hawkins Division. Gill leads the team averaging 28 points per game. Moten, a player/coach on the team played his college
career at Syracuse and he is still the Big East's all-time leading scorer.
