Noize reduction

I have a brother in prison.... and we record him via the phone. Whats the best way to record somone thats in jail?

is there anyway to get a good sound with noize reduction if I have to record via the phone?

Noise gates. I'm not sure how well the hardware works, but the software noise gates suck nuts.

A couple of years back I remember seeing a piece of gear that came with software that was nade for this purpose. If I'm not mistaken d-sane, kev ski or sick wid it posted it. I'll look around and see if I have an old BH book, and if I do I'll go through it and see what I can find.

this one actually is what Im looking for right..... Did I read it correct. I could connect a telephone line to it and it would seperate the signals kinda like sending the beat to him and recieving only his voice with no beat?

yeah that looks like what you need....its saying that it brings in the callers side only without the feedbacc from your side so if you hook that up to your recording rig it will record him only no feedbacc or if you said anything on the phone from your side it wouldnt picc it up either....and its got a "presence" boost to make his voice fuller....sounds like it should work nicely.....

When you're on the phone with somebody in jail, don't they still have that recording that comes on randomly and tells you how long you have to talk? That might be a bitch when it comes to recording.
