Nintendo is actually outselling all other competitors last time I checked..

The health risks with the 3DS definitely hurt sales, people were getting blurred vision which happens to pretty much every handheld console but add the well detailed, 3D effect and imagine how fucked your eyes would be after that..

when i said underdog i was talking about quality(graphics) and game features (dlc content, custom soundtracks etc). but i just looked at the console selling charts for this year.

nintendo listed number as number two and Sony PS3 is number one selling console now. nintendo used to be behind mircosoft but they passed them up this year and microsoft number 3.

Can things get any worse for Nintendo? Earnings for the three months ended June 30, 2011, were a major disappointment, with net sales down 50.2 percent and gross profit down 84.3 percent, compared with the same period the previous fiscal year.

Sales of its five-month old 3DS game console were absolutely dismal -- a mere 710,000 units sold in the April-June quarter -- prompting the company to shore up the product line by cutting the price by US$80 to a loss-leading $170 per unit.

Sales forecasts for other products, such as its Wii home game console and DS handheld device have also been lowered.

In response to the bad news, Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata agreed to halve his salary.

Nor can Nintendo bank on an enthusiastic reception to the next console in its pipeline, the Wii U, which has met with mixed reviews. That suggests the answer to the question of whether things can get any worse for Nintendo is yes, they can.

The company did not return the E-Commerce Times' request for comment in time for publication.

Damn thats all bad but they've been turning steady profits off wii and DS these last couple of years, they just need to stop holding off big titles people want, if they turn out more flagship games in the next 2 years they can bounce back. I've noticed they try to limit when games like that come out tho, like 2-3 of the big titles like Mario, Metroid & Zelda etc per year, couple that with hardly any 3rd part developer support and it's obviously their biggest fault as a whole.
