Basically the way it works is the sound of the keyboard comes out of the tube that u put in yer mouth...Then u sound out the words...You make NO noise yourself...The keyboard provides your voice...In all honesty it's an instrument in itself...It is DEFINETLY not easy to make your words easy to understand...Once you try it you will have a whole new respect when listening to Roger & Zapp....

so it's like the vocoder effect on the triton, where you speak into the mic in sampler mode and you switch the levels of your voice with the keyboard?

No...Because you're not saying ANYTHING...The sound of the keyboard IS your voice...U just move yer mouth like yer saying the words and hit the keys with the right notes u want...VERY DIFFICULT...nothing like the vocoder

Learning how to use a talkbox is without question like learning how to play a new instrument. I read an interview with Roger Troutman where he said it took him 3 solid years to perfect his sound.

Mark - I let you hear a snippet the other day with the talkbox didn't I?
