Well its just a rumor as of now until they offically announce it probably at e3.

It's been a well known secret up until now that combo-crazy Killer Instinct could be making a comeback, and in this months EGM (July 08 issue), rumour specialist Quatermann reveals that spies over at the Rare camp are claiming that work is almost certainly underway on a new Killer Instinct title exclusive for the Xbox 360. Apparently, the game is still early in development but is set to feature the previous title's 2-D gameplay set in 3-D arenas, with the original cast of characters intact and perhaps a few new fighters also entering the fray.

So its kinda like a street fighter 4 style. this shit should be coo but i havent owned a fighting game in fucking days. i hope they bring the OG back for XBLA.

Any news on this (I want it 4 the PS3 though)? I hella like Killer Instinct...1 and 2. I've beaten both on the arcade (I beat part 1 with the robot. I got so good with him in the arcade I'd get 2 the last guy with a quarter. In part 2 I beat it with the conan/barbarian type character with the huge sword). The ultra combo's were sicc and the fatalities 2.

I'm pretty sure I had the OG on gameboy back in the day. God damn fighting games on the game boy were garbage!! MK2 was decent tho.

FUCK....if this shit doesn't come out on the PS3...I'm going to be pissed. I loved this game like no other. I remember I came up, I bought it for the SNES for normal price back then which was like $60 and it came with the soundtrack and a hat.

Soundtrack was dope too haha.

Rare made it clear that they don't plan on making any new KI games soon. Maybe 1 and 2 available for download, but no new game.

Fan: Does Rare have any plans of making a new, edgier, and stylistically better Killer Instinct game, be it on a home console or on arcade machine?
What about a new Mr. Pants game? Or Jet Force Gemini? Huh... well, tell me, huh?

Rare: Purely out of contractual obligation, no, we're not working on KI3, no, we don't have a secret team in the basement finishing off JFG2, no, we're not brainstorming an exciting sequel to It's Mr. Pants and traditionally we're not big players in the RPG market either. Until we're ready to unveil some of the games beyond the new Banjo that we are working on, why not go back and sample some prime Rare goodness from the archives such as NES classics Time Lord or Super Glove Ball?

Fan: It is disappointing as I believe that all of Rare's current games really are intended for the younger gamers, whereas the majority of gamers are aged in their late teens - early 20s, which is a statistically proven fact. This would go to show why MK Deadly Alliance was a massive success.

It would certainly be one of the better fighting games out there if KI3 was there... but is it even in the pipeline for a current-gen console release?

Rare: Once more, with feeling: yes, one day we may well make KI3, it's entirely possible, but at this particular moment in time it's not happening. There are various reasons for this, none of which have anything to do with Mortal Kombat. But rest assured that if and when development begins, and we reach a point where we have something that we're happy to announce to the public, then that's what we'll do - rather than, say, lying and persisting in keeping it hidden for no good reason.

As a side note, I'd love to know what made you decide that Conker: Live & Reloaded (blood, swearing, mutilation) and Perfect Dark Zero (people being shot in the face) are "intended for the younger gamers".
