New Jersey Man Threatened Neighbor With Samurai Sword: Police | NBC Southern California

The suspect held a samurai sword to his neighbor's neck in a dispute over the way his apartment smelled

A Jersey Shore man has been accused of threatening a neighbor with a samurai sword in a spat over a stinky apartment, according to police.

Authorities say 35-year-old John Jandola held the sword to a neighbor's throat and made threats after the neighbor came to Jandola's apartment in Brick Monday to complain about the stench of dog droppings and urine.

Police checked on Jandola's home Sunday after getting a complaint about the smell. When officers arrived, the man said the odor was from his dog and that he would clean up.

The next day, the neighbor knocked on Jandola's door because the apartment still smelled. When Jandola opened the door, he was allegedly holding the samurai sword. Jandola is accused of pushing the neighbor after holding the sword to the neighbor's neck, police say.

The neighbor had minor abrasions when police arrived.

Jandola was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and simple assault.

At an arraignment Tuesday, Jandola's bail was set at $30,000. Information on an attorney for Jandola was not immediately available
