when I was a little kid I used to watch that movie all the time like everyday. Now when I watch that shit it seems kind of gay. I know someone in here used to like that shit as much as me. The soundtrack was the shit too. Wasn't that movie based on some bay area cat like Felix Mitchell or something? Early nineties movies were the shit.

Hey Jar! How are you doin'? Haven't seen you post here much lately! Are things cool in Lawrence? Looks like Kansas' basketball team's doin' pretty well (last I checked, they were ranked like #18, I think).
Yeah, NEW JACK CITY was cool back in the day--for a lot of folks back then (myself included), it was dope just to see a rapper like Ice-T IN a movie (at that time, rappers in movies was still kind of a new thing). But yeah, I agree, certain things about movies from previous periods do tend to get a little dated (i.e., clothes, music, etc). In lots of ways, T's role here was like a precursor to what he now does, on that LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT show.
I also liked BOYZ N THA HOOD, HOUSE PARTY 1 (although that was 1989), MENACE 2 SOCIETY (which had an awesome soundtrack), and Spike Lee was at his peak during this period as well (DO THE RIGHT THING, MO BETTER BLUES, JUNGLE FEVER, MALCOLM X, etc.). And the NJC soundtrack was a nice New Jack Swing sampler, as that was the main genre hittin' in R&B at the time. In a way, yeah, that movie's somewhat of a time capsule, but it's cool.

first time i saw it was about 3 yrs ago...i didnt think it was that good of a movie...but then again i didnt think boyz in the hood deserves as much praise as it does...maybe when theyh first came out i would have saw it differently...but menace 2 soceity, american me, blood in and out, are ten times better movies than those other 2.

I'm cool. I've been batting a damn cold for about a week-and-a-half, but it's just about gone. It's freezing in South Bend, too--we haven't cracked over 30 degrees in nearly a whole month! Luckily, we're supposed to hit the high 30s and low 40s, so maybe some of this snow will melt. I've been mainly working and spending time watching basketball (we mainly get Big East, Big Ten and some Big 12 games out here). and listening to different kinds of music as I always do...you ought to check out the new look that the 40 Ounce site has if you haven't already...
