^^^ If anything, Rockstar is pushing thie limits of the hardware RIGHT NOW. Especially if they're using the Euphoria Engine. Also, since GTA 3, the GTA series has always packed as much content as possible in each game.

Keep this in mind as well; The uniqueness of the protagonists (lead characters) throughout the series is what makes gameplay in GTA what it is. Expect a pretty diverse (and different) experience considering this is a completely different type of lead character.

Main differences for the versions:

360: Better textures, exclusive episodic downloadable content, custom soundtracks

Ps3: slightly worse graphics, won't run as smooth as 360, possibly tilt controls, maybe a larger soundtrack, that's about it.

If you have both systems, you'd be a fool to get the PS3 version.

Will 'Grand Theft Auto 4' Be Gimped By The 360?
Posted by sjohnson - Thursday, May 03, 2007 7:53 AM

No doubt this will start a morning flame-fest. Today's topic of discussion and derision: The possibility that Grand Theft Auto 4 will be gimped out due to the technical limitations of the Xbox 360.

Rockstar games' creative vice president Dan Houser was asked: "On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's
no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?" He says: "Yep."

Got that, peeps?

"To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet." Houser continued. "Both [The PS3 and the 360] have their own particular pleasures and pains."

Since eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto 4 is slated for release on both systems, does this mean everyone gets a gimped version of the game? Or will it mean that there are big differences between the versions on each system? Time, as they say, will tell.

Here is a little more of that same article from ign. 360 Hindering GTAIV?
Rockstar says Microsoft's console is limiting the game's progress.
by Daemon Hatfield
May 3, 2007 - Lately we've seen several examples of publishers and developers favoring the Xbox 360 over the PlayStation 3. Some developers have complained that the PS3 is difficult to develop for, and top publishers have been making previously Sony-exclusive games available on Microsoft's console, where the install base is much higher. But one high-profile developer is sticking up for the PS3.

An interview with the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine reveals that Rockstar's creative VP Dan Houser believes the 360 is impairing the development of Grand Theft Auto IV. According to the magazine's online partner, Computer and Videogames, Houser says the lack of a guaranteed hard drive and the smaller storage space of the DVD format is limiting the game's progress. In contrast, all PS3s have a built-in hard drive and the console's Blu-Ray format can hold about five times as much content as DVD.

Houser does admit that of the two consoles, "both have enormous challenges," and "both have their own particular pleasures and pains."

"To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet," Houser explained.

GTAIV is scheduled to ship simultaneously for the 360 and PS3 on October 17.

Another magazine preview of GTA IV showed up today, this time it's the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine in the UK. The demo given to them was the same introductory preview given to previous magazines, containing an interview with Dan Houser, Vice President of Creative for Rockstar Games.

Below is a summary of new information from the article. We suggest reading the information from OPM and Game Informer first if you haven't done so yet.

* According to the magazine, GTA IV is currently 66% complete.
* When Niko pulls out a pistol, a crosshair with a simple black cross within a circle shows up on the screen. This could be an indication of manual aiming being available in the game.
* Rockstar's humorous take on the number 69 makes an appearance yet again in GTA IV, the editors of the magazine saw a sign for a "69th Street Diner". Another building called "Twitchins", the GTA version of Brooklyn's Domino's Sugar Factory, is in the game.
* Niko will be able to climb and descend exterior fire escapes and some meetings will take place high in the office buildings of skyscrapers. It's said that from on top of them you'll be able to throw people off.
* Hand to hand combat is also being reworked on for GTA IV, and will feel "much more natural" than before.
* One of the radio stations includes an "Eastern European-sounding" dancing station.
* Players will be able to change their camera views whilst in a car according to their needs. This however is said to still being experimented on, and that Rockstar want to give better control and "immediacy" to players.
* For confirmation, boats will be making a return and the handling is "really nice".
* When selecting your mobile phone, a zoomed-in version of the mobile screen pops up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, where you can use its address book to pitch for "jobs" with gang contacts among other things.
* One of the things that makes it easier for Rockstar setting GTA in a fictional New York is that they sometimes get a call from the developers at Rockstar North in Scotland, wanting to know more about a specific building or traffic flow in a certain area, for instance, and using their in-house researchers in NYC they can easily assist the guys back at R* North.
* Dan Houser is quoted saying that the Liberty City in GTA IV is bigger than any single city they've done before, giving a more clear indication of the physical size of the game. He continues saying that the "detail" of the game is the big thing.
* He also confirms Central Park to be in the game, though it's fictional name is still unknown to us.
* Dan says that they're "certainly evolving the way the radio works". He says the same for police behaviour and their reaction to crimes. Nothing further is said about this...
* "Fun ridiculous" weapons is said to be in the game, because R* is not going too "naturalistic".

... to add to this there WILL be helicopters , even though there wont be planes
