The importance of professionalism in Entertainment Business
By: Miles Aaron

In these oversaturated days of everyone and their cousin being entertainers and business people, promoting your own brand correctly is more important then ever. As an artist or business person you are your own walking billboard and should treat yourself as such. If you look and talk like a bum people will treat you as one. When you email other business people looking to work with them make sure you proof read what you are sending. This is 2009 and every word processing and just about every email service has a spell check program so do yourself a favor and use it. There is no quicker way to lose a potential business contact then to write them an email or message with misspelled words and grammatical errors. Similarly dressing according to the occasion is extremely important. If you are going to a business meeting dress for success and it will come to you. There's an old saying "if you dress like a million bucks, someone will be that much more willing to pay you a million bucks.” Instead of spending tons of money at the club or bar take that money and reinvest it in yourself. Buy yourself a nice suit and dress shoes and make sure that you’re properly groomed. Besides the way you dress the words that come out of your mouth are if not as important more important then your clothing. I don't care how you grew up or what you think sounds "cool" a bad vocabulary and speech that is unprofessional will guarantee the business relationship to be short lived. There is no excuse for not being able to talk properly when doing business as there is a large variety of resources and books available for free through both public libraries and the internet. Next time you are attempting to start a new business relationship implement some of the advice I listed above and see if it doesn't help to further your career.
