SamoanDagorilla & Malkorasoul, thanks for the input. That's the kind of input I like to hear.

As far as trying to learn chords and incorporating them more into my beats, yeah I'm definitely trying. A lot of my later beats do have some more chords in them (check out beats 1, 5 & 6 especially), but it's not like their any exotic chords with both white & black keys being used at the same time. So most of the chords I do are just either in the white keys or black keys, major/minor scale right? That's kind of how most of my songs are actually, I just use either the white keys for everything or just the black keys for everything, I have trouble using both keys at the same time in the same melodies. I wish I knew more of the music theory terminology, I just do everything by ear. Another one of my weaknesses I think is getting more of a natural sound on my basslines, I have trouble making it slap harder.

BTW, what's that "robotic" thing. I know I'm using FL Studio, but it's not like I'm using the built-in samples or anything. Does it have to do with the sequencing? Like I said, does it sound too quantised or what?

BTW, Check this new beat out, made it last night.

I used chords in this one, you can hear them on the harp/piano (their both layered). I think I'm pretty weak usually on the bassline, but I like this one, it seems to hit nicely.

haha I know man. That's exactly what I want to make better, that attitude. Seriously I think I just need to either bang hard on the keys or turn that shit up. haha

Thanks man. BTW, why did you delete your thread for? You making anymore beats lately? Just keep practicing, build your ear up, that's what I did. My beats were so wack when I barely started, I mean wack, out of key n shit, non musical. I think Now I just need to work on making my shit have more soul & energy, better quality as well.

they are okay, but.......

you probably listen to old shit, which is an influence to your beats

you probably got bored with all the new shit in the radio, and started going back in time to your favorite classics

Yeah I do listen to more old shit. I do prefer it, but that doesn't mean I make everything with that oldschool flavor. I do like a lot of new school elements as well.

Listen to these:

I don't think there's any oldschool in those. Their pretty uptempo-ish like a lot of new stuff. Especially that second track, it's got that new trance-lead style gated arpeggio synth that everyone seems to use these days. That bassline in the first track also sounds like newschool style basslines such as long sustained notes.

Sounds good, you should have sang to me. haha

Nah for reals that sounds good, a little slow, but good of course. You definitely got the funk, which I don't quite have.

BTW, how do you make your shit sound so quite, yet still have enough punch? I suppose it's something your doing with the mixing/FX process. Seems like when I make drum loops n shit, my shit is too loud or something. All my drum instruments seem to far apart from eachother or something. Like all your shit sits back nicely. Even your bassline, doesn't seem too loud, but it's highly effective within the mix. Don't know how you do it.

I see. Was that a drum loop though, or did you make the drum loop yourself with single-shot sounds? It just sounds nice and tight, if you know what I mean. I think my percussion just sounds like too spaced out. I do like the sound on the bassline, that classic moog type sound. Love that electric piano rhodes as well and that saxaphone is gangsta. You did the sax's melody or was it a sample? I also noticed your track sounds "dusty" at the end of the drum loop at around 1:05+, was that your intention or just part of the sample or analog process? That dusty-ness makes it sound more natural, I think I need to add that kind shit to my beats. There's a plugin effect VST called "Izotope Vinyl" that can create those dust/noises pretty good, might have to give it a try.

No loops....except the shaker wich is about a 1 second sample/hit..of course all drums in mpc are sampled....drums usually sound pretty good out the mpc3000.. for the electric piano its the vintage 74 patch on the motif...The bassline is a patch from the ATC...the flute is called flutter flute from the motif...During the lil hook i also have a pad over the piano..to make it a bit fuller..thats from the jp8000/..

Hear this shit 50Cal or anyone else.

I think I did a better job on this one, especially the bassline. I see what your talking about though when you say it's repetive. I guess I do need to improvise a bit more to keep the track more interesting. That's what I find hard though. For example, I know I should have changed up the bassline a bit, but sometimes I fuck up or doesn't sound as good as I like it. Basslines give me the most trouble than anything. However, if you listen to the strings, I went extra longer and I think it sounds good.

yeah much better i like everything except the wah wah guitars
It's actually an Electric Piano. What don't you like about it, the actual midi composition or the sound? Too much FX on it? Maybe a piano with reverb will sound better.

i like it,but maybe just a lil here and there ..maybe every n8 bars let it play a few bars...or something....Overall great track...bassline/strings drums..(even the quantized tamborines.haha)..I think you can build from here..its a keeper.then once its all properely sequenced then maybe sound selection.not thats there is anything wrong with what ya got...maybe give the bass a different patch or stack maybe a guitar lightly over it//
