Chuck" Kelly and San Quinn built a dynasty that solidified the foundation of the San Francisco rap scene. Now the two moguls are back in business together to secure that bay area hip hop's Street Cred is nothing less than a Done Deal.
Baycentrik: So talk about what made you two go back in business again, Street Cred, Done Deal and San Quinn?
San Quinn: What happened is we never really seperated. Chuck was doing his thing with Big Rich I was doing my thing with SMC. I had somebody I was doing business with who I met through Chuck who was doing business with me. He basically quit. I noticed me and Chuck still had the same passion for what we was doing. We from the same neighborhood, from the same exact block. It started being, not conflict but it was like, Chuck or Quinn, I'm with Quinn or I'm with Chuck. We was working together but now we back working together. Chuck gonna help me put my record out, he talking for me and making sure I am where I'm supposed to be.
Baycentrik: So Quinn, your basically Street Cred now, it's not Deal Done LLC?
San Quinn: Quinn!
Chuck: Done Deal and Street Cred, it really ain't no difference. Me and Quinn started Done Deal together and we own that. That never changed, for business reasons they had to form Deal Done.
San Quinn: Then Chuck had to form Street Cred, cause we had people prying into our business that didn't have nothing to do with it.
Chuck: And just to seperate it, to make things less confusing...Done Deal is with Koch, it was just more money to make. But Done Deal Entertainment is owned by me and Quinn and always has been. We got like a nine album catalog together. You gonna see the same logos and Street Cred will probably just function as Quinn's Management. It's just another way for me to get in Quinn's pocket and for him to get in mine. We break bread together.
Baycentrik: So talk about some of the Street Cred projects set to come out.
Chuck: We finishing up Quinn's album right now. Before we even started back day to day he was like 30 songs deep. So now we just gonna get three or four singles and shoot like three videos before the album come out. We gonna push everything to next year. We got a couple of deals pending for the whole label, but if not we gonna try to get Quinn on a label all by himself. We didn't wanna rush anything out. We gonna put out a couple of street albums. One is "All City" with Quinn, J Davinci..
San Quinn: The Banga, it's a rapper from every neighborhood, as long as we can pull em together. We represent every rapper that's rapping in the city. All the rappers is neutral but there's alot of bullshit going on. Everyone from Cellski, Big Rich, Killa Keise, to the boys in Sunnydale, all that shit. We all coming together for San Francisco's Renaissance.
Baycentrik: You got alot of projects I'm seeing your name on...you got the album with T-Nutty, 100 Racks with C-Bo, Extreme Danger...
San Quinn: Nah don't count Extreme Danger. That's another one of JT's moves. That's all old music from before the new millenium, before 1999. But you can buy all that on Done Deal catalog from me. No disrespect to JT, but that's just JT rocking me up for the last time. It's all old shit!
Baycentrik: So Quinn, you have a Remy Martin Endorsement?
San Quinn: I used to drink Remy Martin alot! I almost fucked up my whole life drinking Remy Martin. I ended up getting endorsed by it. God is good, I don't drink no more. So they gave me $50,000, I can't complain!
Baycentrik: And your not from Oakland....
San Quinn: I'm not from Oakland?
Baycentrik: The Remy Martin ad got you down as being from Oakland...
San Quinn: I dig that! But you know what, Oakland is San Francisco. Did you know that? Where do you live at?
Baycentrik: It's all San Francisco Bay.
San Quinn: There it is! You know what, The Game is not from LA he from Compton. He got LA tatted on his face.
Baycentrik: Yeah, he calls himself the face of LA.
San Quinn: Exactly. All the brothers in Richmond and Oakland can say they really from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Baycentrik: You got a couple of outside ventures right now, you have your own skateboard deck?
San Quinn: I got a skateboard out now you can go pick it up at FTC Skateboards over there on Haight St. San Quinn skateboard. I'm from over there in the Western Addition and they got their company Western Addition. It was only right that I got a skateboard. Hip Hop is coming into skateboarding. I'm not no skateboarder, but I don't have nothing against them. Alot of people that are in the real hip hop community are skateboarders, filipinos, white, people of that descent..
Chuck: They represent Frisco just as hard as anybody. Put it on they cars, tat it on they back, they really support our music. San Francisco's a melting pot, we definitely embracing the skateboard culture.
San Quinn: That San Quinn and T-Nutty, you know I own a percentage of the 100 Racks drink, every once or twice a year, until I sign a major deal, which Chuck finna help me do, I'll be dropping records that go "I got the best crew in the world. I did something right for everybody to want them." - Chuck
along with the energy drink company. It's making a fanbase out in Sacramento, alot of them Bloods and Crips I need to tap into anyway. Done Deal and Street Cred is here. And we fucking with Dem Hoodstarz too, Lawless, so it's colossal right now!
Chuck: Yeah, yeah, we added Dem Hoodstarz to the army. Big shoutout to Bandaide and Scoot, the whole EPA, Menlo... EMP, EPA! It's just making the army bigger. You in trouble now when you cross that bridge all the way down 101 San Jose.
Baycentrik: So Street Cred is a baywide thing...it's not like Done Deal which was more Fillmore, San Francisco oriented.
Chuck: Done Deal was a neighborhood thing, it's a family. Bailey is Quinn's little brother, Ya Boy is San Quinn's cousin, Quinn is like my little brother, Rich is like my little brother. It was all family so now we blowing and moving up. We been fuckin with Dem Hoodstarz, so it was easy to come together like that.
San Quinn: Everybody is CEOs of they own shit, we all run our own shit with no problem. We got San Quinn, we got Street Cred, we got Lawless, but we all presidents and CEOS, Big Rich is too coming to the table. Ain't nobody waiting on nobody. Before I would just credit Chuck for a promoter and promoting my name and my management, and I would be waiting on him to make shit happen! Now I'm making it happen, he making it happen, we ain't pointing no fingers. It really would be alot people around us, we all leaders we got our seperate friends that would be in our ear with sucka shit and you'd be like 'yeah you right' instead of being like shut that shit up!
Chuck: Yeah...
San Quinn: And really not even being that hostile, don't no man need to be talking about no other man. I ain't no parapalegic, I can get around and make shit happen for myself and still get homie credit!
Chuck: Family goes through things and still stay together. You can not speak to your brother for five to ten years but at the end of the day he still your brother. I'm gonna have to see him during the holidays, I'm gonna have to see him on the birthdays. That was just like in the rap, okay we gonna have to bump into them in the radio stations, how do we look like in front of all these strangers not speaking. It never was like that, ill feelings, we both pushed each other when we wasn't working. It wasn't like the streets was saying things, cause they didn't know. Our business was our business. It's hard to keep five or six grown men happy. I had the best -- I got the best crew in the world. Bailey with J Valentine, Ya Boy with Baron Davis, Willie Hen with Scarface, Quinn is San Quinn, Big Rich is Big Rich. All that told me is I know what I was doing. I did something right for everybody to want them.
San Quinn: And didn't nobody wanna give us no money. Me and Chuck hustled ourselves. Even amongst five mothafuckas, if you got $100,000 and you not doing nothing illegal, that 100 gonna be gone!
Chuck: You can't put out 5 albums, get 5 cars, shoot 5 videos...
San Quinn: And then you got cars, car notes, gas... It got to be good that Bailey is with J, it's good that Ya Boy is down there working with Game and Baron Davis. It's good that Big Rich and Chuck ventured off and got the video on MTV, I took over with "Hell Yeah", Willie Hen with Scarface and Done Deal is still unstoppable! When Chuck gets to throwing parties again at Mission Rock then it's really gonna be on!
Chuck: [laughs]
San Quinn: Now he just bringing niggas out of town, doing shit even bigger. Our promotion side as far as DD Party, that ain't stopping it's just getting bigger, now we going to arenas.
Chuck: We gonna get it cracking like the old days, like AWOL used to do. The weathers gonna be bad and we gonna be around home but when we get a good weekend to drive out we gonna live in these other cities for 2-3 months, go shake these hands and make people want our product.
San Quinn: "[Done Deal Fam] making it happen. It really would be alot people around us..that would be in our ear with sucka shit and you'd be like 'yeah you right' instead of being like shut that shit up!" - San Quinn
Yeah! Big shout out to everybdoy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Phoenix, Arizona, Portland, Seattle Washington, San Diego, we coming!
Chuck: Come smoke with us, come live with us, take us around the hood....we ain't gonna shoot no dice with you cause that leads to problems!
San Quinn: Kick game man! Read some scriptures or somethin!
Baycentrik: So what's the possibility of a new Done Deal Family album, all of you coming together one more time?
Chuck: Yeah it's in the works, but now what we gotta do is, since we did seperate, now we gotta make it seperated. That's not a problem, you gonna hear us all together on everybody's albums, and on this "All City" album you gonna hear us all together. You always gonna hear that Done Deal Family, but as far as the record we gotta have a few million so we can get the top of the top for it. Right now we pushing everybody up solo. J Valentine got his album, Bailey working on his, Quinn working on his, you gonna hear from the fam. J Valentine, Bailey even with City Boyz they all family. We hoop together everyday, we go out and eat, it's really a family thing but next year you gonna get to see it. We all gonna get on the road. Street Cred is also putting together a tour for E-40's new album. That tour is probably gonna consist of Quinn, Rich, Done Deal, 40's whole fam, Turf Talk, Too Short, FAB, Hoodstarz, it's all in the works right now to start off in February. Street Cred and Sick Wid It we gonna put that together, together.
San Quinn: So it's real big, you the first person to get an interview, we love it! And we gotta go!
