MySpace to roll out music stores
Artists to set up digital store fronts, sell music from their profile pages
The Associated Press

Updated: 8:46 a.m. PT Sept 5, 2006
LOS ANGELES - Social networking site MySpace.com on Tuesday formally announced it has partnered with San Francisco-based Snocap, a provider of copyright management services, to allow music sales on MySpace member sites.

The digital licensing software will allow artists to sell music from their profile pages and to set up a digital store front.

The MySpace and Snocap music services are expected to become available by the end of the calendar year.

On Friday, MySpace executives said the site would soon roll out music services, and a formal announcement was expected to come on Tuesday.

The service will likely pose a threat to existing digital music stores from the likes of Apple Computer Inc., Napster Inc. and RealNetworks Inc.

I think it's great, but it won't come without a price. They will take a chunk of the profits, but shit your music will be available to people around the world, it's the space age version of sellin' tapes out the trunk.

myspace will probably take at least half the money off each song/cd sold......it'll be good for independent artists....actually, they'll probably get raped

The thing that is kind of dope though is it is going to be in MP3 format...unlike Itunes. That's going to make a lot of major labels not want to fuck with it though because you could burn as many copies of the song as you want.
