So, I've had it for a few days now. To tell you the truth I'm a little disapointed.
I've owned the original motif rack for a few years now, and had some favorite patches I like to use, this didn't have em. Not only that, but from what I gather, it pretty much has the same stuff as the ES, and a lil bit more I guess. There's some real nice stacked claps and good kicks for hip hop, but I can sample those shits and take it back. Other than that, strings, keys, brass, etc. every good board has a fair amount of these and they're all pretty good. I still use some strings out of the triton alot. Plus, side by side to my Roland SRX Strings board in the FantomX, they don't compare. The Roland kills it!
The arp in the Motif has always been top notch but I have a Nord Lead 3, that's pretty good and easy to use too. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not used to the Motif, but the FantomX was wayyy easier to learn out of the box. Plus since I'm not taking advantage of the workstation features, seq. etc. I feel it's a bit much. I really just wanted some new sounds and stuff.
However, the synth pads, leads, etc. are amazing! If you use alot of those sounds this is the shit! I actually like the synth stuff better than my NORD. It's real full and alot of the sounds cut through a track real clean and crisp. That is the only thing I REALLY like about this thing. 2200 bucks later! I still have a few weeks to take it back ,which is a huge possibility. I'm thinking about getting the FantomXR to go along with my FantomX and just stuffing it with the SRX boards. I think I'll be satisfied with that setup until the XS rack drops. Bad thing is I won't have a Motif in my setup, but oh well!!!!
Oh yeah, the FX on this were pretty cool looking, but reverb sounds like all the other reverbs, Chorus etc..

My opinion, SAVE YOUR CHIPS and get a few small things, unless you're in need of a main piece for your setup. I was content with the fantomX, They sold me on the Demo of this thing, but once you get it home, you know how that goes!!
I got my eyes on the Roland V-Synth GT .Shit is real serious, I think that's next!

Nice review......

^ I always thought they had some of the cleanest Synths...
Imma hit up GC one of these days and check it out.

..........doesn't sound much different than the ES
The things I thought they should improve on (sequencing, arpeggio)
doesn't seem like they did much to.....

man for some reason, whenever I attempted to sequence on a motif just messin around, it always sounded off, like the quantize didn't lock that tight. I just remember sequencing on a korg trinity back in the day and that shit was kinda funny too, nothin beats the MPC for hardware sequencing for me.
