Bow Wow Records recently released the long anticipated debut album from Mac Money titled "Tales Of A G". Mac Money's been down with the label for a while now and after appearing on several projects including Mr. D.O.G's "Ghetto Politics", BWR2000's "NW Ridin Compilation" he's about to show the world he's more than just Mr. D.O.G's sidekick. The album opens with the thug lord himself Yukmouth kicking game on the intro. "Keeping It Real" is the albums first song and Big Squeeze laces a phat beat while Mac Meezy spits some of the albums hardest lyrics, a definite rewinder, this track is sure keep heading nodding for awhile. The albums first single "Just Dipping" is another standout track that will keep folks on the dance floor. "What's Your Reality?" features a preachy Mac Money over another sinister beat from Big Squeeze. Mr. D.O.G. pops up on "Having Thangz", the always-tight combination of Mac & D.O.G. shine on this track as Funk Daddy drops a solid beat. The recently departed EastSide Rider, Shaolin, drops a hot verse on "Way Other" while "United We Stand" features some of the albums best lyrics as Mac spits "Everybody to the front lines that claim to be G / We gon bring about some freedom and liberate the streets / If a nigga sleeping teach him and raise him on the G / Stand guard now or never / United on the streets / ". Mr. D.O.G. brings more heat to the jacking for beats style "Air & Opportunity Remix" which borrows Dr. Dre's "On The Blvd" beat; the charismatic duo trade flows perfectly on the albums final track and makes you look forward to the duo's upcoming album "Top Of The Food Chain". Overall this is a very good first album from Mac Money, though it did have a few pitfalls and songs that wont get much play (Hill St. Blues, The Meeting, Slow Down) but if also featured a lot of tracks that should stay in my rotation for a long time to come (Keeping It Real, Just Dipping, Air & Opportunity etc.) The production on the album, which was almost entirely produced by Big Squeeze, is solid throughout and has quite a few knocks to keep your head moving. Mac Money & Bow Wow Records is definitely something to check out!
