What is music really about to you?
Whats your favorite kind of music? and WHY?
WHy do you like any type of music that you do?
Go deeper than ...cuz it makes me feel good or it chills me out...Get down to the specifics.Get down to the art form...
unless thats all you got is the mood thing thats cool too but if you can really get into what music means to you personaly on an artistic level, emotional lever, whatever just so long as you really break it down.

Right now I have been jamming alot of trip-hop, acid jazz, downbeat, and ambient shit.

Music doesn't have to have lyrics to be thoughtful or poignant.

Lately I have been somewhat dissatisfied with the breadth and repetition of lyrical hip-hop, so I turned abit towards instrumental offshoots of hip-hop, the genres I mentioned above.

Music means nothing to me on a deeper level. All of my conscious thoughts, efforts, and opinions far supersede anything I would ever hear ona tape or CD. I use music to supplement my moods, ideas, etc., rather than the other way around.

I MAKE MY OWN MUSIC. SO IT STARTS OFF WITH THE DRUMS OF THE BEAT(SNARES, KIKS, SOMETIMES HIgH HATS OR N-E-OTHA PERCUSSION TO COMPLIMENT THE OTHA ELEMENTS). THEN I PATTERN IT, MAKIN' A FEW PATTERNS THAT LOOP FOR 4 MEASURES AND CHAIN THEM UP WITH DIFFERENT FILLS ON THE LAST MEASURE. THEN I FUK WITH THE BASS LINE, TWEAKIN' WHATEVA BASS I USE(MOST OF THE TIME IT'S MULTIPLE BASSES). THEN AS DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE SONg I MIgHT CHANgE HOW THE BASSLINE RIDES, THUS ALTERIN' THE FEEL OF THE gROOVE. THEN DEPENDIN' ON HOW THE BEAT FEELS FOR EACH SECTION, I USE OTHA INSTRUMENTS TO COMPLIMENT THE gROOVE. THEN ON ONE, I'LL ADD A LEAD AND gET THE HOOK PART FOR THE SONg.. THEN IT'S ALL ABOUT WRITIN' TO THE BEAT OR IF I HAVE A RHYME READY, COMPARE IT TO THE BEAT TO SEE IF IT gOES. IF IT DO, I MODIFY THE BEAT TO THE LYRICS, MUTIN', PAUSIN', DELETIN', OR ADDIN' NOTES FOR EACH TRAK TO EMPASIZE WHAT'S SAID. THEN I MESS WITH AN OUTRO, BREAKIN' DOWN THE BEAT AND FLIPPIN' IT. I THEN RE-MIX THE CUT AND COMPRESS IT TO MY HARD DRIVE. THAT'S WHEN I ADD THE LYRICS AND gET A NEW SET OF IDEAS ON WHAT I'M gONNA EMPHASIZE, OVERDUBB, COMPLIMENT, ADLIB, AND/OR ADD AN EFFECT TO. ONCE THAT'S HANDLED, IT'S MIXXED IN, AND I BURN ME A COPY TO SEE WHAT KIND OF FEEL I gET AND WHAT I CAN DO TO PERFECT AND/ OR DIFFERENTIATE THE gROOVE.

It's all about feeling - when I'm out and about and in the mornings I love my hip hop. Sometimes when I'm in a relaxed mood I get into Bebop Jazz and even a bit of classical.

I listen to music to emphasize that feeling - hip hop (usually) hypes me up and gets me feeling good. When I'm relaxed, just finished a major assignment or exam, or maybe even slightly depressed, classical music can sort out a lot of knots in my head. And some of the skills those jazz musicians have are amazing, just great to listen too all-round.

For me it's more about emotional with feeling and mood. I might listen to some random rap one minute and then be bumping rock the next. If it's the weekend and I'm about to go smash down in the town, I like to listen to crazy guitar licks and high voltage vocals with lyrics about women and drugs and nightlife. AC/DC normally fills that gap. If I'm stressing I might go listen to some Pac, or even maybe some Philip Baily all the way to Rush. Music goes really deep for me.

I'm into Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Blues, Reggae, Rock, Rock & Roll, Metal, Heavy Metal, Punk, Ska, Rap, R&B, Soul, Classic. I'm into a bit of everything but predominantly my favorite is oldies Rock followed by Rap. I also enjoy a good Break Beat and Instrumental music.

The reason why Oldies Rock is my favorite is because that's what I grew up on, some kids grow up on toys and videogames I grew up on motorcycles and hard rock.

As far as writing, recording and producing rap music. It's always been emotional for me, or even spiritual, I have a strong mental connection with my writing but the source is emotional. I like to create feeling, mood, and ofcourse deep, truthful lyrics to go along with it. I try to keep my morals intact when letting the pen go, with some exception ofcourse.

I believe music is supposed to create emotion and feeling, it's supposed to fill the gaps, it's supposed to sway mood, it's supposed to enlighten thought, it's supposed to be real, it's art. Anyone who creates music and has nothing of the above in mind, is a fool. Music is the soundtrack to our lives.

I also can't forget about expression, but that's common sense, art is about expression.

if i can relate to the music and the beats and lyrics are real thats all that matters but it has to be perfect.Every lyric has to be tight and every beat has to be sicc.I listen mostly to local artists cause i like to support local rap and a lot of stuff they talk about i can relate to cause their from where im from.if im not listening to local rap.then Im usually bumpin' some killa tay,c-bo,x-raided,Luni Coloene, too short,Lynch, siccmade muzic, black market records, etc. My favorite music would be music that i can put on and every word in the song i can relate too.Emotions play a huge part in the music i like.If im feelin' down or depressed i can put some music on and feel better.i could go on and on and on about this but i wont.

Lately I've been listening to alot of metal/hardcore bands, iron maiden, metallica, children of bodom, cradle of filth, thrice... Its just what I've been craving lately I don't know how to explain it i'm like in a phase, I always go through music phases. My music ranges from electronica, mellow easy listening beats, acoustic bob dylan type stuff (bright eyes, ben kweller), alot of new and old british bands, stuff thats popular in the scene like the bravery ya know i've been goin to lots of shows lately and it gets me into new bands....i'll even listen to some girl bands.

Sometimes i'll listen to rap, but only because of the beats...because I just don't relate to the lyrics, and most people i know who are all into rap are fake wannabe thugs and wiggers and i look at them and the way they talk and act and how fake they are and it makes me hate rap. And if you notice most rappers are all about themselves, it's a big ego/hardass type thing and i hate that kind of attitude i'm not sayin all rappers but if you notice alot of em get to be like that. Watch it in a cypher sometime you'll notice some people keep wantin to be heard but dont wanna listen to others everyone in the circle wants to be the star.

For the most part I'm tolerant of all music, I think all genres have something good to offer and I'm doin digital audio producer, you know studio tech stuff and i love it, i love all music. Maybe when i have more time i'll come back and go into detail but right now this is just a rambling ha.

From my point of view thats what rap(mainstream and gangsta) is. From what i've seen and experienced... i've produced beats and worked with rappers etc. etc... half my library is gangsta rap alot of which i was exposed to from this site and peeps from the bay, it's just when i started producing beats for people I had a sort of epiphany, I realized I don't relate to rap at all, and most the rappers I was producing for were fake, all about image and way into themselves. I'm not saying this about all rappers, but there is definitely a breed of young well-off kids putting on an act... this is what i've seen from my side. If you think i got it twisted go ahead and spit knowledge.

Rap isnt what it used to be...Rap is now all about the biggest baddest shit not ALL

it makes me pissed to cuz I like old school rap that was just about partying and having some fun
Im getting down with some of the shit thats coming out now though remixing rap with some techno beats and i have really started liking
Ghetto techno type songs...
Rap songs with pounding ass bass
real good fuckin type of music
I like booty house
and getting into some more techno side of the house right now.
I gotta figure out whats what in that world cuz its all pretty closely related.
But just cuz you like rap doesnt mean you cant like anything else....

OLDIES RULE FOREVER! I don't care man, oldies is the best music ever. I listen to oldies, some old school rap, classic rock and metal, bob marley is tight. But also, Mexican music is a whole other aspect. I listen to that shit about as much as oldies. I can relate to Lowrider oldies and Rancheras, Nortenas, etc. That's why I like it so much.
