This might sound like a stupid question, being that I've had my MPC2000XL for over 4 years. But I bought it based on the hype of the name and being young and just buying the first thing I seen without really know everything about it; although I now love it and what I know how to do with it as of now.

But my question is:

I see in a lot of post regarding the MPC that you guys say that a lot of people like using the MPC for it sequencing when running other hardware (keyboards, modules, etc.). What exactly is it that you guys mean by this? I do know that you can control other things with the MPC via MIDI (and vice versa) and I do this with the setup I have. Currently I'm using my MPC, a Casio keyboard as a MIDI controller and Reason. Could someone explain what I asked about above and also, would I need or would it even be possible to use the MPC this way with my setup? Thanks in advance.

Basically You doing it but your using them computer sounds...i use my mpc3000 as the sequencer..no computer programs....I have A roland Jp8000 I use as my controller and I have that on the midi out A so I can also use its sounds. On B I have my motif rack, and C I have the proteus 2000, D I have the studio electronics Atc and daisy chained to that i have the Wavestation Sr...
here is battlecat sequencing on his 3000 and using sound modules like me....

Okay. So basically, I'm recording the actually notes/sequences onto the MPC instead of the modules (or Reason in my case) and the MPC is controlling the modules/Reason. That's all it is?

yeah the mpc is controlling the sounds in reason as if it was a module if you have it connected right...

my settup goes,

Oasys88 (master keyboard controller) to midi in on MPC4000

midi a to Oasys

midi b to motif

midi c to fantom

midi d to MPC2000xl (this gets confusing to some, but im using the other two midi outputs on the MPC2000xl to split the last 16 channels of midi d on the 4000)

then on the MPC2000xl

midi a to the pc

midi b to korg radius (since the korg radius only uses midi channel, i still have 15 i can route to the pc via pro tools and fxpansion-vst-to-rtas(vst's, samples, reason, xpand, hybrid, ect ect))

so if you route one of your midi outs to your pc, and configure your reason to be a slave to the mpc, you can use your mpc to sequence your reason sounds

Okay, so I'm already doing this. I have my keyboard connected to the MIDI In2 of the MPC and the MPC running in and out to my PC using a USB MIDI cable.

Okay, this brings up another question. Is it possible to set up each device in Reason to a seperate channel on the MPC so that I can mute, solo, etc. the devices in Reason from the MPC?

Also, I've been thinking about investing in some hardware. With something like a Triton rack, how would I play multiple sounds at once when composing a track? Does the Triton rack, Motif rack, and others have multi-track features like keyboard versions do?
