August 2, 2007 - As part of its revised revenue and earnings guidance for fiscal 2007, Take-Two has announced the delayed Manhunt 2 has been completely removed from its current fiscal year schedule, ended October 31. What's more, the game does not appear on the company's fiscal 2008 line-up.

This week Rockstar filed an appeal to the British Board of Film Classification to overturn the decision to effectively ban the game in the UK. Over here in the States, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board handed Manhunt 2 the dreaded "Adults Only" (AO) rating, meaning retailers would refuse to carry the title and manufacturers would deny it access to their consoles. Aside from verifying the delay, Rockstar has been mum about its plans for the game in North America.

Manhunt 2 was last spotted floating in some nebulous, bizarro dimension.

Censorship at its best.I wasn't really looking forward to the game, but after all this crap took place, I was semi-interested. Would have rented it at least for PS2.

August 31, 2007 - Another day, another bizarre turn of events for Manhunt 2. While the Entertainment Software Ratings Board lowered the game's rating from Adults Only (AO) to Mature (M) in the U.S. last week, its status remains unchanged in the UK and Germany: it has been banned. Now GameDaily BIZ is reporting that officials in the Netherlands have given the green light to sell Manhunt 2 uncut in whichever form Rockstar desires.

After parliament in the Netherlands called on the courts to ban the game as well, a Dutch Justice Minister by the name of Ernst Hirsch Ballin determined the country's laws provide no means to outlaw the sale of a videogame. There are laws in place to prosecute retailers who sell a violent game to those under 16, but the courts apparently do not have the power to outright ban a game.

"The current law is based on the principle that every adult is considered capable of deciding for himself which games he wants to play, unless it contains illegal material," said Ballin.

The Netherlands lacks a videogame regulative body, self-appointed or otherwise, such as the ESRB or British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), and the European Union doesn't police games across all its member states.

Rockstar has not expressed any plans to release an uncut version of Manhunt 2.

"It is very good news that Manhunt 2 has now been rated Mature for North America and will be released October 31," a Rockstar representative told GameDaily. "However, we have no updated information on the BBFC status of the game or a release of the game in Europe."
