LAS VEGAS - Monta Ellis' bright future with Warriors got a little cloudy after he collapsed to the floor with a sprained right knee during a summer-league practice Thursday night. The extent of the damage, if any, will not be known until further examination, a team spokesman said.
Ellis, a 6-foot-3 guard, was driving into the lane, then pulled up just as 7-foot center Patrick O'Bryant -- the Warriors' first-round pick in this year's draft -- jumped to meet him. Ellis immediately lost the ball, screamed in pain and took several steps off the court before falling to the ground.
``He just planted,'' Warriors Coach Mike Montgomery said. ``We'll wait until tomorrow and see what happens.''
Only days ago, the Warriors agreed to trade veteran guard Derek Fisher to Utah, though the deal cannot be finalized until Wednesday.
Montgomery, however, said Ellis' status would not affect the Fisher deal.
``Poor kid,'' Montgomery said of Ellis, a second-round pick in 2005. This marks the third consecutive year Montgomery has seen a young player go down in summer league. ``Summer league's been tough on us -- (swingman Mickael) Pietrus got hurt on the first play of the first game (two years ago) and last year it was (forward Chris) Taft.''
