SAN BERNARDINO -- Police say an argument over cleanliness and hygiene led a man to repeatedly stab his 64-year old mother to death with a sword.
Antonio Uribes, 35, has been booked for investigation of murder.
Emma Uribes was found Monday in the living room of the San Bernardino home the two shared.
Detectives say the family members told them Uribes had been frustrated with his mother's nagging about his hygiene. The mother had also been pleading with her son to take his medication, according to neighbors who heard the two arguing.
Police were called to the home in the 1600 block of North Conejo Drive around 8:00 p.m. and found Uribes suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she died a short time later.
The woman's sister told detectives Uribes had stabbed his mother repeatedly with a large knife which was later determined to be a sword. Uribes was arrested a short time later at a nearby park.
Uribes' sister, who was inside the house at the time of the attack, tried to take the sword away from her brother. She suffered minor injuries.
Police say they are not sure if Antonio Uribes suffers from a mental disability. Emma Uribes reportedly underwent open- heart surgery a few months ago.
