A Santa Rosa woman was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of drunken driving and felony child endangerment after flipping her vehicle on Laughlin Road, ejecting herself and two of her children.
Christian M. Galvan, 23, was arrested at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she was taken after the 6 p.m. rollover that caused a “horrific impact,” according to the CHP.
Galvan was eastbound at a high rate of speed on Laughlin Road south of the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport when her white Chevy Tahoe left the roadway. It hit the guardrail, snapping the wooden posts at their base and twisting the metal barrier away from the roadway and into a large loop above the ditch beside the road.
The vehicle traveled about 350 feet before coming to a rest on its mangled wheels partially in a ditch next to rows of grapevines.
Galvan was ejected and landed in the road. Her two daughters, ages 4 and 6, also were thrown from the big SUV. One was found in the ditch and the other in a grassy area near the grapevines.
Galvan's 2-year-old son was found strapped into a carseat in the vehicle.
The 4-year-old girl was airlifted to Oakland Children's Hospital. The two other children were with Galvan at Santa Rosa Memorial.
None of the injuries were believed to be life threatening, the CHP said late Tuesday.
Laughlin Road was littered with broken glass and debris from the vehicle. Children's books and CDs were scattered where the battered SUV came to a rest. A stroller lay in the grass at the rear of the vehicle.
“For a parent, if in fact they are intoxicated, to get in a vehicle with their children, you bring in child endangerment,” said CHP Sgt. Bob Barr.
Galvan had to be driving at a “high rate of speed” for the large vehicle to have sustained “such a horrific impact,” Barr said.
“It's most definitely a DUI investigation at this point,” he said.
