If we're getting a Modern Warfare 3 this November, it's going to come at the cost of an Call of Duty spin-off from the head creator of Dead Space, the Los Angeles Times reported today.

Citing "people familiar with the situation," the paper says that Infinity Ward, the studio behind the last two Modern Warfares isn't going to get Modern Warfare 3 done alone. Parent company Activision is enlisting the help of its Sledgehammer Games and Raven studios to make the game.

Infinity Ward's struggles are believable, given that the founders and dozens of key members of the studio were fired or quit last spring.

Modern Warfare games have usually taken two years to make and that kind of distraction would seem to have delayed such a schedule. Sledgehammer is a new Activision studio headed by two of the top creators behind the horror sci-fi series Dead Space, which is now made without them at rival company EA.

Sledgehammer has been working on a Call of Duty of its own, one originally thought to be a third-person game but more recently touted as a first-person shooter. The Times reports that Sledgehammer is working on Modern Warfare 3's single-player with Infinity Ward and that Raven, the studio behind many shooters and action games including last year's Singularity, is helping with multiplayer.

Activision has clarified up none of this, but did tell Kotaku today that "There's been much speculation recently. We look forward to releasing details for the next Call of Duty in the near future."

I used to think this was the next logical step & would be a cool idea when IW was together & running smoothly. Now tho, they had to bring 2 other development companies in to meet a deadline, this will be rushed as fuck most likely.

if one was to come out this year, we woulda already heard about it by now. 9 months to make a video game.. would that be rushed? not sure how long it takes for them to complete a game....

Before, quality big budget games took 2-5 years to make. Now Activision is dropping a new CoD yearly by having 2 separate development teams working around the clock. So they take 2 years maximum to meet their holiday deadlines.

all the coding is really already done, all they have to is change backgrounds add some guns...a little more complex than that i know, but most of the coding will remain the same just with different visual presentation

but guaranteed it will look rushed...two teams working on the project...i wonder if you'll be able to tell which teams did what...anything new and exciting would probably come from sledgehammers eager minds to get a name for themselves

So it seems that both Sledgehammer and IW ( whats left of it ) will be making the campaign mode for MW3 and Raven ( who is doing the DLC for black ops ) will be making the multiplayer side of things.

3 companies one game?

Epic COD fail in the near future.
